My Winter Must-Haves 2017 | Beauty & Food

For those of you who might be a bit confused by the title, yes it is winter here in the Southern Hemisphere! Yesterday in Cape Town we experienced some great thunder and lightening, it was pure bliss.

Now, I have a love-hate relationship with winter. I love being inside and cozy in my bed with popcorn and series or a good movie but when it comes to going outside? That’s a no from me. I hate the thought of damp clothing and shivering and not to mention the endless frizz on my hair!

I have put together a few of my winter-must haves for those of you who are just like me and love snacking and the little bit of beauty banter. Products are listed from left to right and contain no affiliate links.

MY WINTER MUST-HAVES

  1. The Woolworths Pea and Ham Soup. I love soup. I have a grandma who makes the most amazing vegetable soup and I refused to like other soups for the longest time until I tasted this one! It tastes amazing and I’m also a fan of their Beef and Country Vegetable soup! Great for cold nights with great movies.
  2. Who doesn’t love hot chocolate? I’m going to be honest, I’ve never actually tried the Hug in a Mug (If you’ve tried it please let me know). I’ve always been a Milo girl but I’m not going to lie, it’s getting a bit too expensive for my liking. Also, I would never insult hot chocolate by adding water – only milk please!
  3. The LUSH Frozen Bath Bomb. I love nothing more than a hot bath in winter and also smelling super clean and fresh. The Frozen Bath Bomb just has a clean smelling scent for me and I mean who doesn’t love a blue bath?
  4. The LUSH Sex Bomb. Same story just with that cute little rose in the middle that floats around my bath and melts away afterwards.
  5. LA Girl Matte Lipgloss in “Secret” I love a vampy lip in winter. Now I’m not going to lie, even though the colour pay off is great and it is really long-lasting, I feel it’s a hassle to remove and can be very drying on my lips when I don’t apply a primer.
  6. The Body Shop Strawberry Hand Lotion I’ve probably mentioned over 1000 times that I cannot stand dry hands. I personally feel like I would rather moisturize my hands because my mom always told me your hands can reveal your age. Funny story – once a girl grabbed my hands and told me “these feel like hands that haven’t worked a day in their life” to insult me. I kindly told her that I knew how to take care of my hands even if I clean my kitchen every day and cook most nights. I love the smell of this hand lotion and I feel that it’s really moisturizing without being sticky or too oily.
  7. Labello Lip Butter in Blueberry Blush I’ve rambled about this in a favourites and have even compared it to the new The New Labello Bold Blackberry Shine but I feel that this one is so small and convenient to keep in your bag. The only problem I have with this is that after a while the tin lid gets stuck and I find it hard to open!
  8. Last but definitely not least, I have been loving the New Body Shop Drops of Light Range which I’ve recently reviewed. The Brightening serum works so well as a primer as it gives me a slight dewy glow without looking oily.

What are your fave picks for the winter? And yes, a separate post featuring my winter picks will be up really soon.

I am currently in the middle of semester tests so I am writing this Friday (tomorrow) and Saturday. Wish me luck!

The Body Shop Drops of Light Range | Review

Hello beautiful and welcome back to my blog!

So you may or may not know that I have a YouTube channel which you can find here. I was recently invited to The Body Shop event in which they introduced the Drops of Light range. Anyone who follows my blog or my YouTube channel will know that I am an avid skincare fanatic so this was right up my alley. I am very open and honest in terms of whether skincare products work for me or not because I believe that I would never review a product I do not believe in or that does not work for me. So grab a cup of tea and get ready to read all about this new range!

P.S: Due to the fact that I do not really suffer from dark marks, I asked my mom to put this to the test as well so this is not a bias post and is completely fair. She does suffer from dark spots on certain areas on her face.

ABOUT THE DROPS OF LIGHT RANGE

The new Drops of Light Pure Healthy Brightening range is a daily regime with red algae extract that helps to achieve multiple dimensions of brighter, healthy-looking skin. Brighter skin isn’t only about reducing dark spots, which is why they’ve created a 5-in-1 formula to improve healthy brightness, translucency, even tone, minimize the appearance of pores, while leaving the skin feeling smooth and supple.

The multi-benefit range is suitable for sensitive skin (big plus for me, as I’m very sensitive to certain skincare products), it combines the natural power of red algae, known for its brightening and anti-dark spot correction benefits, plus the power of vitamin C, one of the most potent antioxidants renowned to support brightening and plumping skin with moisture. Helping you to be the best and brightest version of yourself every single day!

In my range I have the Clarifying Foam Wash, Pure Healthy Brightening Serum and Pure Healthy Brightening Day Cream.

CLARIFYING FOAM WASH

Cleanse and clarify your complexion morning and night with this rich, creamy foam wash. Massage gently into a luxurious lather that purifies without stripping the skin. This retails for R150 for a 125ml bottle.

My Thoughts: It’s a great face wash. It really makes my skin feel so clean and fresh while smooth at the same time. In my opinion it does not really foam that much so I wouldn’t call it a foaming face wash. Other than that, I loved this. My mom loved the face wash just as much.

PURE HEALTHY BRIGHTENING SERUM

Replenish and illuminate skin with this lightweight, fast-absorbing, non-sticky serum. It glides effortlessly to deliver efficient brightening brightening whilst leaving skin feeling instantly supple and hydrated. Apply 1-2 drops to skin morning and night and massage in. After 4 weeks skin imperfections and yellowness are reduced, pores look minimised and skin looks brighter and more translucent. This retails for R295 for 30ml.

My thoughts: I loved this serum after the face wash. I feel it is hydrating, however it is what it is – a serum. I would love to test this as a primer for my skin before make-up application and then see how it works. My mom feels that it’s not super beneficial to the skincare regime but it is very hydrating and she loves the glow it gives her skin.

PURE HEALTHY BRIGHTENING DAY CREAM

image1(4)

Nourish skin with this highly moisturizing day cream. Its silky texture melts onto your skin and is clinically proven to significantly reduce the number, size and intensity of dark spots while delivering 24H hydration. Instantly skin texture is smoother, softer and re-plumped with moisture. After 4 weeks skin is brighter, looks healthier, more even toned and clarified. This retails for R240 for 50ml.

My thoughts: I loved this cream as I’ve never felt a face lotion so hydrating. I’ve only been using the product for 2 weeks so I still have to deliver the final verdict, however my mom has definitely noticed a significant change in her dark spots. They seem to have brightened, however they are still there so do not expect miracles to happen overnight.

Overall I can honestly say that these products are really great. They did not irritate my skin at all and they really helped in terms of reducing the size of pores. I’m impressed by how my mom’s dark marks have lightened and I would definitely recommend it for people struggling with dark marks!

Review: Oh So Heavenly Press Drop!

Hi everyone and welcome back to another blog post!

My schedule has been absolutely hectic to say the least, however I always appreciate good spoils in the mail. Okay, I’m not going to lie, this post is a bit late but better late than never, right?

I recently received 2 products from Oh So Heavenly, you can follow their Instagram page here or check out their website here, to review and I’ve come to let you know my thoughts.

— THE PRESSDROP —

There was not really a great pressdrop packaging for these beautiful products which was disappointing as I’ve been using this brand for as long as I can remember. Also, there was no note pertaining to the prices of the products so they will not be included in this post. However their packaging of the items was indeed very pretty with bright pastel colours saving the day!

—  HULA HANDS HAND WIPES–

The first item which caught my eye was the pink hand wipes. I loved the pink packaging and how convenient it is to put into your bag, or in my case the car cubby for whenever I am going to eat and need to clean my hands. It smells absolutely divine and I could swear it made my hands even softer! Definitely a great product. These hygiene hand wipes wipe away dirt and germs, are enriched with vitamin E, are alcohol free and cotton soft. You won’t regret purchasing it! I have misplaced my SD card with a lot of my blog photos on them so I’m using one from their website, which I have linked above!

                                              — HAND BAG TREAT HAND LOTION–

I am a sucker for anything lavender scented! So you could only imagine my excitement when there was a hand lotion with my pressdrop! This has been a lifesaver for me as I often have to wait in the car for my classes to begin and due to the fact that I have to have the windows open, it tends to dry out my hands. This has definitely saved me in terms of the cruel dry hand scenario which I cannot stand! This lavender infused nail cream softens and moisturizes hands as well as strengthening your nails and cuticles.

Life Update: I’m Single, Done Blogging & Future Plans?

I have no idea how to begin this blog post.

I think one thing my readers don’t know about me or choose not to see is that I don’t really like to put my whole life on the internet (ironic, right? I literally post videos on my YouTube channel documenting my life’s adventures and beauty routines). But on a serious note, I feel like I owe it to a lot of people to understand why I haven’t been blogging and why I have not been consistent with my uploads.

Most of the reasons are discussed in my latest vlog which you can watch below. Now just a side note, this was filmed before my initial reason for this post so it’s just a few details. Click play to watch and leave me a like & subscribe:

Now, the real reason for my absence on both my social media as well as my blogging/vlogging platforms is because I’ve recently come out of a 4 year relationship. You may or may not have seen my ex in a few of my blog posts and videos but I can’t keep it a secret forever. Due to the fact that we have dated so long, we have both become different people and for that reason, have decided to part ways. I wish him nothing but success and happiness and for this reason I just ask, that should you stumble on an old post or video, that you kindly ignore it and not pay it any further attention.

At this point in time I’ve decided to focus on my blog while at the same time growing my followers and meeting new people along the way. I am not done blogging although it may have looked like that for a while. Thank you for all the love and support you’ve all shown both my blog and my YouTube channel.

As for my future — next year is my final year of university. I still have a long way to go in terms of final year and graduation but this is only a new beginning. Although I am trying to remain at the top of all my classes, I still want to be able to develop a routine in terms of blogging and filming and my schedule will works as follows: I will have 3 blog posts a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a new YouTube video every Friday.

Someone once said that sometimes you have to accept that some people can stay in your heart, but not in your life x.
