A stranger donated to my travel fund and what they asked me to do in return is insane…

I love feel-good stories. In fact, I wouldn’t mind writing about them for a living. I love when good things happen to others, but never did I think that a stranger would go out of their way for me.

I love travel. I’ve only ever had the opportunity to travel once for my birthday and believe me, I’m beyond grateful. Ever since, I dream about getting on planes, booking flights and seeing what is out there. I watch Instagram stories where people are looking out of planes and think to myself “Will that ever happen to me?”. I told the cleaner at my work that if someone needed to go to a different city for a day and couldn’t make it, I’d take that opportunity in a heartbeat. If you followed me on Instagram, you’d know at one stage I even photoshopped pictures of myself in Bali and Paris. Trust me when I say if they call it a travel bug then inside me must be a travel monster.

I started my internship in May this year. As much as I love my job, it only allows me to save a portion after I pay rent, bills and of course a tank of petrol to take me 55km to work and back home every day. With my 23rd birthday quickly approaching on the 8th of August, I put out a status update to my family on socials (that I have no way of contacting telephonically, oops I’m really bad at saving numbers, okay) that I did not want any gifts this year, but rather to donate to my travel fund in order to give the travel bug in me some joy. I woke up the next morning to a message from a mutual follower asking me if they could donate to my travel fund.

I thought they had to be joking, why on earth would someone that I hardly know and have only spoken to back and forth on Instagram offer to give me money? Their response and what was asked of me in return was one that blew my mind and that I still cannot believe to this day.

“Random acts of kindness and I know my little contribution will be a blessing to you, you can thank me by paying it forward whenever you get the chance”

I’m currently sitting at my desk on the verge of tears. Yes, a real person offered to do this for me. No, there is no catch, just very good people in the world.

I told my colleague about what happened and I insisted that there was no way I could possibly take money from someone I didn’t know. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I’d feel so bad. My colleague then told me if I didn’t, I would be taking the opportunity bless someone away from this individual and it wouldn’t be fair to them.

I don’t think this individual will ever understand how much I appreciate what they have done for me. From this day on, I promise to always pay it forward when I know someone is in need. I want to be a better person than I was before and most importantly, I want other people to know that there are still good people in this world, really good people.

I’m not sure how many people read my blog or how many people this will reach, but if I could do one thing today, it’s to ask people how you can pay it forward. Here’s the thing:

When you bless others, you also bless yourself . This is because what you give is what you get.

I promise to pay it forward, do you?
