30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 29 – Baked Banana Bread Recipe

Hi Everyone!

I’d just like to apologize as this recipe was scheduled to go up yesterday but it didn’t so I really am sorry for making you wait. Also, I’ve received a few questions with regards to my YouTube channel. I haven’t posted a video in about a month because my schedule has been beyond crazy and I haven’t had the time to sit down and film a video due to the fact that I am practicing my driving in the hopes of getting my drivers license, I have to work 1 more weekend before I am officially done with my 3 month promotional campaign and I am in my second term of first semester which is an exam term and requires a lot of focus.

Without any delay, here is my banana bread. I posted a few videos on my Snapchat: just_deeanne and a lot of people snapped me asking for the recipe so here it is:

INGREDIENTS:

WET INGREDIENTS:

3 Mashed Bananas

1/2 Cup Melted Butter

1 Teaspoon Vanilla Essence

1 Cup Milk

2 Eggs

DRY INGREDIENTS:

2 Cups Sugar

3 Cups Flour

2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

Nuts are optional.

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celcius (356 F) (Mix all wet ingredients together: mashed banana, eggs, milk, vanilla essence and melted butter. When adding the melted butter make sure the butter is not warm as this will scramble your eggs, causing your bread to flop. Once all the wet ingredients are thoroughly mixed, add dry ingredients: sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda and 1 cup of nuts if you wish. Mix once again, your consistency should not be runny nor too sticky. Somewhere in the middle and you’ve got it spot on. Insert the mixture into a baking tray, I personally love using bread tins and bake for 45 mins to an hour making sure that you insert a skewer and if it comes out clean, your cake is ready and you can switch off the oven and close the oven door so it will dry out for the remainder of the time. Once ready, take it out to cool making sure it’s still a little bit warm, top with butter and serve.

Scheduling the next post to go up tomorrow as I have a full day tomorrow. Have a lovely week xo

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 28 – Hassle Free Spaghetti Recipe

Hi Everyone! In keeping with my Bon Appetit section on my blog, I thought I’d share my favourite spaghetti recipe. Spaghetti is one of the easiest and hassle free meals to make and I love any Italian food. For the next 7 days I will be uploading a recipe a day as I have been very quiet on the blog.

INGREDIENTS:

500 g Ground/Minced Meat (I usually use 1 packet but for 4 guests or more I use 2 packets)

1-2 Onions (for more flavour I prefer using red onions)

1/2  green pepper, diced.

1 clove of chopped or grated garlic

1/2 a packet of spaghetti, depending on how many guests you are serving. My personal favourite is the Fattis and Monis spaghetti.

2 – 4 cans of tomato paste, my personal favourites are the Koo tomato paste or the Rhodes tomato paste cups. Depending on how many people I serve, 2 – 3 people I usually use 2 Rhodes tomato paste cups.

1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil

1 pinch of salt.

PREPARING THE MINCE:

Fry the onion until golden brown, add green pepper and add garlic.

Once the garlic and green pepper are sauteed, add the mince into the frying pan and fry until the mince is ready. I personally love to add BBQ spice for extra kick and hearty flavour. Once ready, it can be removed from the heat.

In a separate pot, add boiling water to spaghetti with a pinch of salt and teaspoon of oil. Once all ingredients are in the pot, boil the spaghetti for about 1–15 minutes or until it is soft, yet firm to chew.

Drain spaghetti into a colander and add it to the mince and mix together. Add tomato paste into the spaghetti and mince and season with a little bit of sugar just for a hint of sweetness and so that the bitterness of the tomato sauce is not too overpowering.

Feel free to leave out the mince if you’re not into mince but personally it’s what brings the whole meal together in my opinion.

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 26 – What’s In My Backpack?

Hi everyone!

So I just recently uploaded my What’s In My Backpack video. I’m going to give the rundown here on my blog for those who can’t access YouTube but if you can please feel free to watch, subscribe and give it a thumbs up ❤️.

Basics:

– Cellphone: Basically, I’m obsessed with all my social media. I love keeping in touch with all my subscribers on YouTube and replying to comments on my blog so this is a definite must for me. A lot of people ask me where is my phone case from and it is from Typo but I wouldn’t recommend it because the glitter at the back comes off and looks really gross. I do have a new cover on my phone with an Eiffel Tower on it so I am so happy.

– Earphones: Definitely a must for me because my boyfriend listens to a lot of crude music which is a bit much for me so I prefer to have my own music and I wrote a lot of papers and I do not like silence so I have to have these babies with me at all times.

– Wallet: Even though I am your average broke student I like to have my wallet on me just in case I need money for food or textbooks even though I never keep money in my wallet because I’m super paranoid about being robbed or having my money stolen.

– My Student Card + Keys: I always have this on me because I can’t go anywhere without it. I have already started my driving lessons so hopefully one day my car keys will be attached to that bunch.

– File: To store my notes in before I paste them into my book.

– Binder: To store my notes in when I don’t have time to file them because when we print we have to get out of the line to accommodate the next person.

– Hardcover: I rarely carry this unless I have time to sort out my notes and study in the library.

– Prayer Book: Great book to have for when I feel anxious or need reassurance.

– Pencil Case: stores all my writing supplies as well as my stapler, stapler remover and extra staples.

– Emergency Bag: For when aunt flow comes to visit and when I need to freshen up because nobody wants to be smelly.

Hope you enjoyed a little peek of what’s in my backpack ❤️.

30 Day Blogging Challenge – Day 24: Inexpensive & Easy DIY Face Masks

Hi Everyone!

I really wanted to feature a DIY and Beauty segment on the blog and I decided that I would list a few of my favourite face mask recipes. Not only are these so inexpensive to make but most of the ingredients are natural which is great because we don’t use any chemicals on our face. Let’s get started!

LEMON AND HONEY FACE MASK:

Ingredients:

1/2 lemon

2 tablespoons of honey

Directions:

In a bowl, squeeze out the half a lemon and then add 2-3 tablespoons of honey until an even consistency is formed. Apply directly to the face avoiding the eye area and leave on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off.

OILY SKIN SOLUTION:

Ingredients:

1 avocado

1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice

1 egg white

Directions:

Combine all ingredients to form a paste, apply to skin, obviously avoiding the eye area and wait for it to dry then rinse off with cold water.

HONEY OATMEAL BLAST:

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons of honey

2 Tablespoons oatmeal

1 Tablespoon of plain yogurt

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and apply to a clean, dry face avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 5-15 minutes and rinse off.

Hope you enjoyed my easy DIY face masks, I’ll be back tomorrow with another post.

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 22 – 5 Fave Tracks of the Week

I’m going to be totally honest, I didn’t really know what to write and I had a whole lot of preparation for campus so it’s currently 22:36 here in South Africa and I don’t know why I am exhausted as I am right now.

I’ve mentioned before that I love listening to music and I thought I’d just leave a few tracks that I’ve been loving lately. I have done a post like this before but as time goes on, my music gets updated and I listen to new things.

  1. All Your Fault – Big Sean ft. Kanye West (Explicit): I have an unhealthy obsession with memorizing fast-paced lyrics and I have come to love this song so much. It took me about two weeks to fully nail it but I just love rap music because sometimes there are some great puns and a lot of word play. As an English major you can imagine how that excites me!
  2. We Don’t Talk Anymore – Charlie Puth ft. Selena Gomez: Back to my love for girly, romantic music which Matthew can’t stand when I blast it in the car, this song really has a great feel specially when you’ve lost connection with a loved one. It’s really one of my top tracks on my playlist and I am loving it.
  3. On My Mind – Ellie Goulding: Who doesn’t love blasting Ellie Goulding and not caring who hears? I know I do, especially this latest hit track because it is literally music to my ears. Well done Ellie! Dance floor chart topper for sure.
  4. In the Night – The Weeknd: This man did not win those Grammy’s for nothing ladies and gents. The Weeknd is an extremely talented artist with a Michael Jackson feel. I like that he can make music that speaks to the soul but still has that sultry edge that makes your knees weak.
  5. King Kunta – Kendrick Lamar: If his Grammy performance did not blow you away then please feel free to leave my page. I honestly love rap music and among my favourite artists, Kendrick Lamar definitely tops my list. I am so excited to see what he’s going to do next

Sorry this isn’t one of the greatest posts but I’m not feeling too well and I am dying to get into bed. Goodnight!

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 20 – My Make-Up Look For Work

So, I think I owe my readers both an apology as well as an explanation…

I haven’t posted in a few days and the reason is because as many of my readers know, I have started university already and week 1 is officially over (Okay, not really I’m still at home and have a lecture at 1) but I have also started working on weekends which has been both exhausting and rewarding because I have money to purchase those extremely expensive textbooks. I have already started scheduling my blog posts as well as YT videos so that this does not happen again so once again, I do apologize for the delay!

Yesterday my GRWM for work went up on my channel and you can click down below to watch it:

For those of you who can’t watch, I’ll take you through my routine step by step:

  1. After completing my skin care routine, I usually prime my face with my Isabella Garcia Day Defense moisturizer.
  2. I apply my foundation which is the Yardley Airbrush foundation in the colour “Natural” and use my Cala 303 Foundation Brush.
  3. To even out my foundation, I use a damp beauty blender and dab it all over my face. Emphasis on dabs and not strokes because you don’t want to stroke your foundation off.
  4. For my eyes I used my Charlie Revlon Neutrals palette and a combination of 3 gold to orange shades which was applied with my Pupa eyeshadow brush. I then used my Charlie Revlon ‘Rock n Curl’ mascara. Most of the products mentioned in this post can be found in my January faves on my blog, feel free to search it in the search bar at the bottom of the blog.
  5. Using my Clinique lipstic in “Peach Pop” this gave my lips a subtle yet great pop of colour. Loved the vibrant yet soft tone it had and is perfect for work.
  6. To tame my brows I went in with my Essence brow pencil in 02 Brown.
  7. Lastly I used my Design compact powder to set my make-up and to give me a great finish.

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 19 – Mini Make-Up Haul

Hello and no I refuse to say “It’s me” because if I hear that joke once more I will probably lose my mind.

I’m coming to you today with my MINI cosmetic haul. Emphasis on mini because I am a student and your girl is just so damn broke. I only start working this weekend, which I am grateful for but I only get paid in 3 months time which means I’m even more broke than I should be.

I forgot to insert 2 products I purchased (Don’t you just hate that).

DSCN0632.JPG

I’ll start with the products not featured above:

Design Compact Powder in the shade “Mahogany”: I purchased this powder as I really want to start contouring and highlighting. It’s a pressed powder which is extremely delicate on my skin and does not cake or come out relatively obvious. I purchased it from Edgars.

Design Clear Gloss in the flavour Melon: Who doesn’t love a sweet smelling gloss? Loved it, but it’s sticky so definitely not for dates ladies. This was also purchased from Edgars.

From Top To Bottom:

DSCN0635.JPG

Rimmel London Scandal Eyes In Black/Noir: I absolutely hated using the winged liner before because I felt I had no control and it always looked messy. Ladies, let me tell you that this Scandal Eyes pen is perfect for precision and won’t smudge at all. Loved how easy it is to use and that the tip/applicator is almost like a koki pen which doesn’t move all over the place like a paintbrush type applicator would. LOVE IT.

DSCN0636.JPG

Essence Cosmetics Eyeshadow Blending Brush: Today I had to make the hardest decision I’ve ever made when it comes to brushes. The powder brush or the blender? As you can clearly see I went with the beautiful lilac blender which has the softest bristles and is the perfect size for blending, definitely going back for another one due to the fact that you can’t have just one blending brush, especially when doing more complicated make-up looks.

DSCN0637.JPG

Katy Perry Cool Kitty Lashes from Eyelure: I broke into these bad boys last month already but just felt they were a little too much for a beginner like me. I have seen some lashes I’m dying to try in the store so stay tuned, there might just be a lash haul in the near future!

DSCN0633.JPG

DSCN0634.JPG

Essence Cosmetics Eyeshadow in the shade “Snowflake”: Yes, this would be a great colour to wake me up if I placed it in the corner of my eye but I’m really feeling this colour for a highlighter! The consistency was so smooth and pigmented I really would like to try this out as a highlighter.

The last product would be my Essence cosmetics brow pencil in 02 Brown which you can find in my January Faves over here

Well, that’s about it from me. I know I was supposed to upload part 2 of my terrible break up and how I got through it but that will have to wait.

What’s your fave beauty product at the moment?

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 18 – How I Got Through the Worst Break-Up Ever

Hi everyone!

I had mixed emotions regarding this post, I had to ask the person if I could post the story and everything that came with it due to the fact that it is quite an emotional story and a personal one at that.

This is a 2 part series so part 2 will be up on my blog tomorrow when I post day 19 of the challenge just to clarify and because there was more to the story.

“A broken heart is the worst. It’s like having broken ribs. Nobody sees it, but it hurts every time you breathe”

For me, my world fell apart when the fighting started. It would start out as heated arguments which would turn into “whatever, I love you’s” and you’d think it would be something along the lines of “Oh but that’s romantic, the passion you have after a fight”. I thought so too, until the fighting became personal and would happen on a daily basis. Due to the fact that we hardly saw each other and I was performing poorly academically, he would throw it in my face because he was a top achiever and say the ugliest of things to me. I retaliated by being just as nasty and using the worst language and insults. The worse the fighting became, the more bitter it made me as a person. Eventually, I reached my breaking point where every evening we would fight, I would cry myself to sleep. In a way, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed sleep so much that I would blow off doing my homework just to get away from the pain I had to endure. My heart was shattered one night when I called him in tears and hysterically asked him “Why are you doing this?” and his response was “why are you crying? I don’t understand”. I became really sick during the time when the fighting started and started sleeping more, becoming really anxious around big groups of people and just unhappy in general. One day, I received word that my dad was heading off to work overseas in a war-torn country and decided to go over to visit my boyfriend at the time to let him know the news. My dad was leaving relatively soon so my mom told me I couldn’t stay long. When I broke down about my dad leaving he was relatively understanding and consoled me. For once I was happy, until I told him I couldn’t stay at his house for long. He just wasn’t having it and got really upset and when it was time to say goodbye, he didn’t hug me. Just told me that my family was waiting. Little did I know that when I got home, that would have been the last time I said goodbye to him. He had erased me from his contacts and refused to answer all my calls. He blocked me on Facebook and that was the last time I had heard from him. For nights on end I would cry hysterically and that’s when I started having panic attacks. My body would go into a total spasm after crying and I wouldn’t be able to breathe. I would pull out clumps of my hair and tend to throw up my food when I felt like I ate too much. I was mentally drained. I made fake accounts to check up on how he was doing and it turned out that there was another girl (discussed in part 2) and he seemed to have moved on. I remember one of my best friends asking me how I felt about 2 weeks afterwards and I told her that sometimes I would check my pulse because I felt so dead inside and I was scared my heart was broken to the extent that it stopped beating. I made a mistake by entering another volatile relationship where the guy I was with slept around with other girls. I felt like that was it for me, I couldn’t do it anymore.

That’s  when I picked up my music player and lost myself in relatable music. It felt so good to just know that someone else could relate to what I went through. Music lead to dancing and I lost weight and started taking care of myself. I started changing the way I dress and being happier in general. I was happy because I could depend on myself, I started doing better in school and just immersing myself in everything I could to take my mind off of things.

That’s when my ex came back into the picture….

To be continued
