September Goals & Reflection [Day 2: 30 day blogging challenge]

I know I’m a bit late on the bandwagon, but happy Spring everyone!

I love September because it marks new beginnings. For me, this month has brought some great surprises: one being that I was on the radio! Yesterday I won a competition on Heart 104.9 where I get to go to any nature reserve in Cape Town [Boulders Beach penguin is honestly at the top of my list right now]. August brought a lot of blessings, particularly turning 22. I’ve really had a lot of time to think and I’ve also made the decision not to take life so seriously. Your 20’s are supposed to be the wildest years of your life and I feel as though I’m not living the way I would like to and I’m not seeing as much as I should. However, this is also the month where I have to knuckle down and apply for jobs. I am so excited for the new chapter in my life but I feel that with this, comes great responsibility. So I decided to put my goals down in my virtual diary and get the ball rolling:

Get serious about blogging

I figured that every year, R150 goes off of my student account to cover the cost of my domain. I can’t have a blog and not utilize it. It doesn’t make sense to be paying for something I don’t use. When I stopped blogging, my stats started going down and I just didn’t feel motivated to produce content here because I was so focused on my YouTube channel. By doing the 30 day blogging challenge, I’m pushing myself to get back into blogging and to remember why I fell in love with it in the first place. This goes hand in hand with posting regularly to Instagram. I need to get my stats up so that I can reach my goal of 1000 followers.

I have a love-hate relationship with this goal. Books are expensive. I love to read but I hate spending money. When I stopped working this year, it was because I wanted to put more time and effort into my studies, after realizing that I could not graduate cum laude due to the fact that I failed an exam and was required to write a supplementary, it really made me see things differently. I then lost interest in my studies, partly due to the fact that I’m not doing what I love.

Stop spending money unnecessarily

I love to spend money on things I honestly don’t need. Make-up, shoes, clothes, you name it and if I think I can get it at a steal, I want it. I’ve been so careless with my spending this year and this realization came to me when I watched a video of a girl who stuffs envelopes with money to limit her spending. Although I’m probably not going to go to the extent of limiting myself to the last cent, I would like to try saving at least R100 a month. If I succeed, I’ll be on the road to putting money away and investing it so that it can grow rather than having the urge to spend it again.

Meet new people

This is terribly embarrassing for me to admit, but I have no idea how to go about meeting new people or networking. This hasn’t always been a problem for me, only in recent times when my confidence took a knock in high school. I used to love meeting new people and my goal is to meet at least 5 new people this month. This is to move out of my comfort zone and stop being afraid of going for things I’ve been scared to do before.

Take more risks

All my life, I feel like I’ve always played it safe. After watching the movie Ibiza, I feel like I have a new found love for doing things without thinking and following your heart. I resonate with Harper on another level. I say this with a sense of responsibility at the same time, because I’m sure that not everything happens the way it does in the movies.

Learn to love myself more

I am my biggest critic sometimes. I feel like I never take time out to assess my own needs and treat myself with the things that I deserve. That needs to change and I feel that without love, one doesn’t really have anything.

What are some of your goals for September?

  50. Who should answer these questions next?

On that note, this is my first blog post for the 30 day blogging challenge. I have decided to get my views up because for some reason my views and interaction on posts have been relatively low. The last time I did the 30 day blogging challenge, my interaction and stats sky-rocketed and I just enjoyed challenging myself when it came to new and innovative posts. If you would like, I’ll have a post related to a bunch of blogging ideas so that you can start your challenge too!

Purple & Orange Sunset Eye (Perfect for medium to dark skin tones) | Collab with Nydia Nel

–CLICK PLAY TO WATCH, PLEASE LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/COMMENT–

If there is one thing I love, it’s a dramatic eye look. I’ve done a few in the past, however I’ve never experimented with colour before. I was approached by a fellow South African YouTuber, Nydia Nel on Instagram who asked me to recreate an eye look. I asked her why don’t we both do our take on this eye look so that we can do them for different skin tones (my skin tone is relatively darker than Nydia’s). Needless to say, with a week of preparation and a few struggles here and there, we both pulled it off and I could not be happier with the results. She put a lot of hard work into the video and it really shows in the stunning look she put out. Don’t forget to check her out below and subscribe to her channel!

–NYDIA’S VIDEO–

For this look, we both had different takes on it. I went a bit more dramatic whereas Nydia focuses on more neutral mauve tones in her look. This is the beauty of make-up, it’s different for everyone. With that being said, I think both looks are definitely a great take on our recreation.

Swiitch Beauty Unicorn Sauce Palette Review & Selena Gomez 2017 Met Gala Inspired Pink Eyeshadow Tutorial

Told you I’d be back with a few looks.

Hello lovelies! I hope you’ve had a great week and that you’re ready to party up a storm this weekend, or if you’re like me you’re ready to relax and have cute Instagram brunch dates (the single blogger life is sad sometimes).

In this video I reviewed the SwiitchBeauty Unicorn Sauce Palette and also recreated this eye look Selena Gomez wore to the Met Gala earlier this year:

My Thoughts On The Unicorn Sauce Palette ♡:

Shipping & Shopping Experience ♡:

I ordered this palette as part of the Pink Friday sale, which is Swiitch Beauty’s version of Black Friday. I ordered my palette at midnight on the dot and did not experience any problems with checkout or paying for the palette. There was an option for express shipping or normal shipping. I paid for normal shipping and the palette arrived at my house the Monday morning at 10AM I remember that I still wrote an exam that morning and left early so I could get home early. I have to give a big thumbs up to SwiitchBeauty for delivering so quickly. The price wasn’t heavily discounted and I ended up paying around R265,99 in total which is relatively close to R350. Therefore, I’m really not impressed with the so called ‘sale price’ that they seemed to offer.

Packaging ♡:

The packaging of the palette is one of the best in my opinion. It has a holographic finish and looks amazing! The palette contains 35 intensely pigmented, buttery smooth, mythical eyeshadows. The shades range from yellows, oranges, pinks, violets, greens and blues to black.

Swatches and Colour Pay Off ♡:

I have to say that I was relatively impressed with the swatches of the shades in comparison to the Slays For Days Palette. I was not impressed with the orange shade in the Slays For Days Palette but this palette blew me away. I loved the shades I used on my eyes. They blended well and there was only fallout in the palette but not on my face. I was honestly so impressed, that I rated my palette a solid 10/10. I cannot wait to create colourful looks with this palette!

The Completed Recreation ♡:

This is the finished look I tried to recreate from Selena, I really love how this turned out!

Swiitch Beauty Slays For Days Palette | Worth The Hype?

If there’s one thing my readers should know about me, it’s that I’m brutally honest.

–CLICK PLAY TO SEE MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS, PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE–

Last month, I ordered the Slays For Days Palette from Swiitch Beauty. If you don’t know, Swiitch Beauty was founded by Rabia Ghoor. She is a South African entrepreneur who left high school in Grade 10 to persue a career in the beauty industry with her own startup named Swiitch Beauty. I love the fact that she is so young and started her own business. More power to you girl!

Swiitch Beauty offers a selection of products which you can find here and I have to say that the selection is quite impressive. I opted for the Slays For Days Palette which offers 35 intensely pigmented, buttery, warm toned shadows. It retails for R350 and I happened to get mine with free shipping.

First off, when the package arrived it was so securely wrapped which meant so much to me because it ensured that the palette didn’t arrive broken and that all the shadows were in tact when they came to me. The packaging of the box is absolutely stunning, with rose gold lettering on the front of the box. Another important note is that this palette is cruelty free. A while ago, Love, Kaylyn wrote a blog post with all the details which you can find here I absolutely love her blog and her aesthetic is to die for!

A question that seems to be on everyone’s lips is where exactly Swiitch Beauty’s products are manufactured. I personally have no idea,  but there has been some talk about people spotting the products without the brand logo from China. I personally do not mind, as long as they are cruelty free and no animals are harmed in the process!

One thing I have to say is that I love the variety of colours in the palette. I love warm tones and I am contemplating purchasing the Unicorn Sauce palette. However, during my tutorial (if you watched the YouTube video above), I complained about the smell of the packaging. This to me was a bit of a problem, as the smell was so strong it gave me a headache.

I don’t know how to pin down the scent but it was obviously so potent that it left me with a wofting headache. I’m going to try to leave it out of it’s packaging so that the scent disappears though.

With regards to swatches, some of the shades did not swatch nicely but on my eye they blended really well and the shimmer shades were very intense even without using a make-up applicator brush.

In my video, I spoke about the correspondence and how quickly the palette arrived so if you want more information on that then please watch the video.

This is the finished look I created with the palette which I am extremely pleased with:

I did recreate this look in the video so please go and watch it to see how I created this look.

Overall, I’d rate this palette an 8/10 just because I didn’t like the fact that the palette left me with a headache and I do feel that the price is a bit expensive so I don’t know if I agree with the price. In terms of pigmentation and blending I loved this palette so much! Would you like one of these palettes? I’m thinking of doing a giveaway!

VLOG: Life in the Fast Lane (Literally) – Audi TT Rides, Tamzen’s 21st and Wine Tasting.

If you told me last year that I would have an amazing group of friends and would be going out more often, I would’ve probably laughed at you and told you to tell someone else a joke. My life has changed so much since I came out of a 4 year relationship in April and I can honestly say I’ve never been this happy. I really enjoy going out with my friends and most importantly, I look forward to going to campus every day because I have them to look forward to. In this vlog you can come with me to go wine tasting, take a glimpse at what Tamzen’s 21st looked like and even take a spin in her new Audi TT.

One of my favourite quotes from Harry Potter is:

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”

Everyone creates their own happiness, if you choose to do so. For 2 weeks I refused to go to campus because I was in such a dark space and feared running into my ex at campus. Then I asked myself, why is he going around as happy as can be when I’m stuck at home feeling miserable? It was at that point when I reached rock bottom, that I knew the only place I could go was up. I really have to thank my friends for being my pillars of strength in such a dark time, but most importantly for showing me that I was happy before and I can be even happier now. I am genuinely enjoying this stage of my life and constantly meeting new people. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

This Is Goodbye.

“Please don’t get me wrong, I’ll always love the person you were. I just can’t love who you are now and what you’re becoming”

Before I start, I feel like you need to hear this.

–PRESS PLAY TO WATCH/LISTEN–

I can’t do this anymore. I can’t begin a new chapter of my life without closing an old one.

6 months ago, I was broken, unhappy and unmotivated. I questioned if life was worth it and I thought that the end of a relationship with someone who was your “best friend” was the end of the world. The girl I was 6 months ago hardly ever posted blog posts, felt too scared to upload YouTube videos because I didn’t have help and didn’t have any friends because I felt it was better to keep to myself.

It’s so funny to me because I would wish he’d come back and say he was wrong, apologizing for what he did, not even wishing me for my 21st birthday. When the time came and I saw this person again, there was no apology. No remorse. No care about how I was doing but merely, “what more can I get from you, knowing that you’re vulnerable?”.

Some things never change.

In my loneliness and longing, I found comfort, until I realized I wasn’t comfortable anymore.

I can honestly say that 6 months later, I feel happier. In fact, I can honestly say that I don’t even remember being this happy. I go out more, I sing in the car for the fun of it and most of all, I’m not alone anymore. I have friends, people who genuinely carry my best interest at heart.

DSCN4006

IMG_7117

Please know this…

With the people I have in my life now, I have slowly started to erase you. In all honesty, I have you to thank for this. If I had never left, I wouldn’t have found what happiness truly feels like.

My heart doesn’t go into race mode when I see your car, my heart doesn’t drop when I see you or your friends.  I no longer walk into your work place praying you won’t be there.

I will always cherish what we had, but I don’t know who you are anymore and I don’t like what you’ve become.

I am happy, that is all you need to know. You don’t have to come back, you don’t need to text me to ask if I’m okay. Thank you for everything, but know that nothing more will come of this. Not a friendship, a conversation or a visit.

“It is always important to know when something has reached its end. Closing circles, shutting doors, finishing chapters, it doesn’t matter what we call it; what matters is to leave in the past those moments in life that are over.”

After four years, this is goodbye. Not for now, but forever.

Review: The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid (6/12 shades) & Lip Scuff

Life is short, buy the lipstick.

I’ve always been a massive fan of The Body Shop. This year I was fortunate enough to be invited to their Drops of Light event. At this event, they introduced us to a wide range of products The Body Shop had to offer which included the Matte Lip Liquid which I will be reviewing.

As a student, I had to watch my budget as The Body Shop can be quite pricey, and for good reason. The quality of their products are so good, that I feel it is value for your money. These babies retail at about R90 each and recently they had a massive 3 for 2 sale, which I caved and bought 3 more and it only costed me R180. The first 3 I had purchased at the event.

From left to right: Sicily Iris, Sydney Amaryllis, Paris Peony, Cali Gerbera, Taipei Orchid and Windsor Rose.

The packaging reminds me so much of the Kylie Jenner lipglosses, without causing me to spend my entire salary. With a simple matte black cap and 8ml tube of lipgloss, I feel that it is definitely worth the spend.

The colour selection in this range was what I was most impressed with. I feel that 12 shades are not a lot but the colours they offer are out of this world. One thing I do have to note is that I feel that the colour in the tube is not the same when applied to the lips. In some instances they are much darker and others much lighter. The darkest shade I own which is 019 Sicily Iris, shows almost black in the bottle but then on the lips it’s more of a deep plum, but not as dark. The darkest shade in my opinion would be Sydney Amaryllis which shows up closer to a neon pink/red on my lips.

The only bad thing I can say about this product is that sometimes one coat is not enough, which is normal as I’ve never had one swipe colour pay off before. The other thing I’ve noticed is that when I wear this, it takes a few minutes to dry down matte.

With that being said, I feel that the good definitely outweighs the bad when it comes to these lip liquids. I’ve eaten meals before and still had my lip liquid stay on, I’ve only ever had to reapply maybe once or twice. I love that this is hardly drying on my lips as I do struggle with dry lips so I feel that I have a love-hate relationship with matte lipsticks or glosses because they can be very drying. I feel that these are so wearable and I haven’t tried it before but they should be kiss proof too (provided your significant other does not eat your face off). Lastly I love the smell of these because it is a bubblegum scent and it smells so heavenly. To me, Sicily Iris smells like grape bubblegum!

I do not have swatches of the lip liquids because I am saving that for a swatch and wear test video so people can see for themselves!

image4

The Lip Scuff:

Being someone who struggles with dry and chapped lips, I needed an exfoliator for days when I really need to treat my lips. This lip scuff has a very menthol type of scent and feels like an exfoliating scrub, just in the shape of a lip balm. I love how moisturized my lips feel after removing the dead skin and this prepares my lips for the matte lip liquid. It has not been damaging on my skin and I love how cute the packaging is! That is the item pictured above with the silver cap. I would definitely recommend this as an exfoliator for your lips.

Review: Garnier Ultimate Blends “The Sleek Restorer” Shampoo & Conditioner

I have to start off by saying that I hate shopping for shampoo and conditioner. I worry that if I purchase a product (on my student budget, by the way) I won’t be happy with it and it won’t work with my hair type.

This weekend I picked up the Garnier Ultimate Blends “The Sleek Restorer” Shampoo and Conditioner at Clicks for R40 each. So firstly, I only spent R80 on both products which I consider to be the best bargain EVER. This had to be too good to be true, right?

Wrong! Infused with coconut oil and cocoa butter, this shampoo and conditioner promised to deliver super-sleek smoothness for dry and frizzy hair. Boy oh boy, did this baby deliver.

IMG_6508

FACTS:

Coconut oil is a highly nourishing and protective oil from the tropical coconut to leave skin and hair smooth, soft and supple. It is an instrumental in taming dry and frizzy hair.

Cocoa butter is a rich butter, gathered from the far reaches of the Ivory Coast, smooths
and nourishes hair and skin with its delicious chocolate scent. It is renowned for taming frizz and fly aways.

REVIEW:

Anyone that knows me, knows that I’m not usually one to sing a products praise without putting it to the test. So this weekend I indulged in a nice hot shower and washed my hair with both products. My hair is extremely curly and I prefer to wear my hair straight because I find it easier to maintain. The problem with having naturally curly hair and constantly using heat tools to straighten? Frizz. I hate the fact that whenever I dry my hair, 5 minutes later I have this one patch of hair that just screams for help because it is so dry and frizzy. I dried my hair and went to bed and the next morning I was so surprised at how smooth and silky my hair felt. Another thing I cannot stand is when products claim to give you silky smooth hair, but end up making your hair feel oily. If my hair is oily it will show and cause a lot of dandruff. I did not have this problem when using the Garnier Ultimate Blends shampoo and conditioner and I had little to almost no frizz. What I loved most about these products, is that even though they are infused with oil, they didn’t leave my hair feeling heavy and oily. Rather it combated my dry strands and added moisture back into my hair.

For anyone wondering, the smell is quite sweet which I do not mind because I love sweet-smelling things. I can safely say that even though it is Tuesday, I washed my hair on Sunday evening and my hair still smells amazing!

So. In all fairness, I was a bit hesitant to try out this product just because I had seen it all over social media. I often worry that when you see a product become so popular it is either forced or in fear that a brand may not work with you. These products were affordable, worked well with my naturally curly hair, did not leave my hair feeling heavy and oily and smells too good to be true, YUM!

What shampoo and conditioner are you using at the moment?
