Enjoy Bath & Body Birthday Celebration – Competition Time!

“Another adventure filled year awaits you”

I love birthdays. No, wait. I love celebrating birthdays. I have always been the person that goes overboard when it comes to celebrating and making the most of someone’s special day because I believe that it’s the one time of the year when people should be given everything their heart desires. However, this year I received a gift on someone else’s birthday.

Review: Garnier Pure Active Intensive 3-in-1 Charcoal Anti-Blackhead Wash, Scrub & Mask

It’s been a while.

If you follow me on social media, you would have seen that recently I decided to take a break from Instagram and posting almost daily. As a student, my work load can go from “what am I doing at campus” to “I should be paid for writing 2000 word essays and coming in for tests on Saturdays”.

I love unwinding while I write papers so that I don’t feel overwhelmed. Taking care of yourself is an important asset to your mental health and should always be your first priority. Recently I received the Garnier Pure Active Intensive 3-in-1 Anti-Blackhead Wash, Scrub and Mask from Garnier and at first I was a bit hesitant. Being someone with sensitive skin, I wasn’t sure how my skin would react to the product and if it would work.

First off, I have to say that I received 2 products but will be saving my second review for my demo video. If you didn’t know, I have a YouTube channel which you can find here if you would like to see beauty tutorials, reviews and vlogs. I would love if you would subscribe to my channel so you can be a part of my YouTube family.

I used the charcoal scrub as a mask and I have to say I’m really impressed. It didn’t smell too intense but still had a very nice scent. After leaving the mask on for 5 minutes, I washed it off with warm water. Most masks usually leave my skin feeling rubbery and tight after using them and then result in a massive break out. This mask left my skin feeling so soft and smooth. Apparently this product is supposed to tighten pores as well and I did feel it working. I have yet to get the dreaded blackhead break out but I’m so eager to put this bad boy to work! I love the product so much and I cannot say enough good things about it.

Thailand Adventures — Vlog 3: Elephants, Journey to the Phi Phi Islands & Krabi

Happy Saturday my lovely readers!

— CLICK PLAY TO WATCH–

I trust that you had a good week and that you’re looking forward to relaxing this weekend. This is my last weekend of my holiday before I go back to campus which starts on Monday, the day before my birthday! I am so excited to be turning 21 and just spending some time with my family and friends.

This post is about my journey to the Phi Phi Islands but before that I actually contracted food poisoning. This is why this particular vlog is so short. Don’t worry, getting sick on holiday has become a common occurrence since I was young already. I also explained in my previous vlog that every time I took out my camera it really detracted from my holiday because I had to make sure I had footage all the time and that I was able to showcase everything and eventually I just took a step back and said I could not do it anymore. I really hope everyone understands and that you’re not upset that not much went on in my vlogs.

I want to do a separate post detailing exactly what the tour was like and what exactly I got up to during my vacation. I’m so blessed and grateful for the opportunity I had to travel and see a different part of the world.

If you enjoy the vlog, please feel free to give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel so that you can be part of my little family. I genuinely enjoy creating content for my readers and viewers and due to the fact that I have more time on my hands this semester, I really want to create more content for my blog specifically. I upload YouTube videos every Friday.

Want to see what I get up to for my 21st birthday shenanigans? Feel free to follow me on Instagram or Snapchat: just_deeanne. I’m always active there. I have also been posting a ton of photos from my trip which you might not see on the blog.

20 Things I’d Like To Do Now That I’m 20

Hello my amazing readers, I cannot believe it’s that time again where I’m sitting down in front of my laptop and just writing a post for you guys. I am beyond excited to announce that my Kendall Jenner Inspired Red Lip Tutorial has been featured on Yardley London South Africa’s Instagram Page! You can find their profile by looking up yardleylondon_sa and leaving me some love if you would like to x. Also: I am filming a Q&A for my YouTube channel so if you’d like to leave me questions in the comments then please feel free to do so.

For those of you who didn’t know, I turned 20 on the 8th of August 2016 and this basically means that I am no longer a teenager and slowly but surely making my way into the adult world. I’ve come up with a few goals or things that I would personally like to achieve during my 20’s and I just want to inspire others to set goals for themselves and make the most out of life. Let me know if you have any goals you’ve set out for yourself in the comments!

  1. Get My Driver’s License: This is my number one priority at the moment and I am so so nervous to complete my driver’s test this month. I feel that this would be an amazing way to enter into my adult phase as having your driver’s gives you a sense of freedom and responsibility. Please keep your fingers crossed for me this month!
  2. Travel: Being someone who has never been overseas yet, I’m very keen on traveling and getting a job in order to save money and just explore new places and try new things. I promised myself that I’ve always wanted to go into a career that involves a lot of traveling to make up for what I’ve missed out on. Wanderlust is too real out here!
  3. Get My Degree: I am a double major in English and Language and Communication Studies, so I am always forced to work extremely hard because in South Africa, BA and English Degrees are not given enough credit and it is often difficult to find work. A degree would mean a great sense of accomplishment for me so I would love to obtain this and add it to the office wall in my future home.
  4. Intern at Cosmopolitan or  any other fashion/beauty magazine: Although Cosmopolitan is top of my list, I wouldn’t mind interning for a beauty or fashion related magazine. I firmly believe that experience is everything in my industry and you can never have too much experience, however you can be over-qualified. How I see it is that I’m going to obtain my degree, intern and then complete my post grad in journalism. There are bursaries available to help with this and if I do obtain a bursary I walk straight into a job after my studies. Hard work never killed anyone!
  5. Own my own apartment: As much as I love being around my family, when I turned 20 I suddenly felt the need for my own personal space. Having no personal space in my house can be very frustrating sometimes and it’s not the best of situations. I hope to have my own place before the age of 25.
  6. Get Married: I know life is unpredictable and I’m not the type of person to set my heart on someone quickly but my family usually get married around 23-29 and I’ve always been in love with the idea of love.
  7. Have my first child: To be honest, I want this more than anything. I’ve had baby fever for the longest time and I love children so no surprise here.
  8. Learn a new language: I hope that with traveling and going to new places, I am able to absorb the culture and learn new languages along the way. I find learning to be so much fun and very interesting so this is a must for me
  9. New experiences: I would love to try new things and start going to various events. Being someone with social and actually wanting to put myself out there, it’s a very scary thought and exciting at the same time.
  10. Conquer my fear of putting myself out there: When I was bullied throughout high school, I was in such a bad place that when I transitioned to university it was really difficult for me to make friends and to this day I can’t start a conversation unless someone talks to me. I just want to get over this because it ruins so many aspects of my life and it’s time that I do things for myself.
  11. Win a competition: If you follow me on snapchat (just_deeanne) you would know that yesterday I posted a snap saying that I have never won a competition in my life. I feel I’m going to enter all the competitions I can and hopefully win something.
  12. Take my mom & grandma on the vacation of their dreams: A lot of my success I owe to my grandma and my mom. They were always there for me in the sense that they always pushed me to do better and never t give up. I honestly don’t think I would be at university if it were not for my grandma and my mom. Thank you ladies.
  13. Grow spiritually and deeper in my faith: I love God and everything about my religion, I just want to be spiritual on a much deeper level and just reach a point in my faith where I can honestly say I’m happy where I am.
  14. Go to a music festival: I’ve always wanted to go to ULTRA or just a music festival in general and enjoy myself and live it up.
  15. Adrenaline Sport FTW: I will bungee jump, water ski or white water raft before I turn 30 and this is not optional.
  16. Maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle: I’ve recently started eating so much healthier and exercising regularly. It feels so good to know that my body is in good shape and that I’m no longer lethargic and eating unhealthily.
  17. Go camping or on a road trip with a bunch of friends: This has always been one of the goals I’ve always wanted to achieve. Friendship is important to me in so many ways and I can’t wait to do this.
  18. Be financially independent: I never want to ask anyone for money and I want to work as hard as I possibly can so that I can be financially independent and never have to look at the price tag on an item of clothing ever again.
  19. Become the editor in chief of a magazine: The ultimate goal. YAAAS.
  20. Be happy with life and myself in general: I think that everyone should aspire to be happy with life and just happy with themselves in general.

See you next time lovely!

Shield MotionSense Aerosol Review – In Collaboration With Beauty Bulletin

Hi beautiful!

Today I am coming to you with an exciting announcement. I recently had the most amazing opportunity to review products for Beauty Bulletin, South Africa’s leading beauty community and network! I had the privilege of reviewing the Shield Motion Sense Fresh Confidence Aerosol as well as the new L’Oreal Boost It Pro Range, which will be live on my YouTube channel on Friday.

With regards to aerosols, I’m very fussy when it comes to certain scents due to the fact that my nose is extremely sensitive to certain odours and I can get headaches if the smell is too strong. This was not the case for this aerosol, it was a clean, fresh, burst of fragrance that reminded me of baby powder.

Pink is my favourite colour so I was immediately drawn to the packaging.

What is Motion Sense Technology?

From what I understand, the ingredients in the aerosol were designed to detect motion and release bursts of scent every time you move.

How did I put it to the test?

I am not a fitness fanatic but decided to do an hour of cardio which included both running and dancing. I tried my best to work up a sweat and I was blown away by what had happened.

Did it work?

As I was exercising, I could smell bursts of freshness every single time I moved so this aerosol did not disappoint, it left my underarms feeling dry (in a good way) and smelling amazing. I was honestly so impressed and even on my way to get water, my mom told me that I smell amazing!

Would I recommend it to others?

Definitely, I am such a big fan of this aerosol especially if I’m not wearing perfume just because it lasts all day and doesn’t leave me sweaty and stinky. I am definitely adding this to my gym bag.

How much does it cost?

If I’m not mistaken it’s R29.99 at leading retailers, but please do not take my word for it.

A big thank you to Beauty Bulletin for giving me this amazing opportunity. All the products I have mentioned were provided by Beauty Bulletin. I cannot wait to show you what I’ve done for my L’Oreal video coming this Friday!

DIY Lip Scrub/Exfoliator

Hi Everyone!

I have started scheduling my posts because it’s really difficult for me living in South Africa to cater for the majority of my readers living in a different time zone. I just wanted to know if I’m the only one who experiences problems with scheduling posts or? Anyway, it’s Winter here where I live so I thought it would be a great idea to do a DIY.

I suffer from chapped lips during the winter and I always made the mistake of running for the chapstick. For me chapstick actually dries out my lips even more so I found out that exfoliating your lips is actually better than moisturizing it constantly. Hope you enjoy!

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Sugar: 1 tablespoon
  • Honey: 1 tablespoon
  • Olive Oil: 1 teaspoon
  • Vaseline or Shea Butter: 1 teaspoon (Coconut oil and jojoba oil are also alternatives)
  • 1 small container

Combine all the ingredients into the small container and apply to the lips. If your lips are very sensitive or overly cracked then I recommend applying very gently so that you do not cause damage to the area.

Would you like to see more DIY posts? These posts always get a very positive reaction so I am more than willing to do it for you!

I have a review coming tomorrow and a new YouTube video coming on Friday.

Beauty For Beginners Series: Beauty Life Hacks

I’ve just finished watching a great episode of Come Dine With me and I have to say, I’m addicted. My heart hurts when I have to write that this is the last feature of my Beauty For Beginners Series, and it has done so well over time. I really want to continue blogging daily and I will, maybe with a day or two off as I am busy studying for exams, I write my mid-year exams which kicks off on Monday but luckily I have great spaces in which I can balance my studies with my blog. Tomorrow I will be uploading my first vlog and it would mean so much to me if you subscribed in the mean time by clicking here xo.

Without any further delay, here it is, my final installment of Beauty For Beginners xo

IG PROMO POST

  1. You can use your foundation brush to pat on your under-eye concealer if yours does not have an applicator. I have a whole post about Beauty For Beginners Series: Brushes if you’re interested.
  2. If you thought your Beauty Blender was just for blending foundation, you couldn’t be more wrong. You can remove harsh contour lines and remove excess product.
  3. An angled blush brush can be used to contour your face, not just to apply blush.
  4. Messy lipstick edges? Grab your concealer brush to clean it up without ruining the rest of your make-up.
  5. Want your eye shadow to appear more smokey? Try running the shadow below your lash line for a smokey eye effect.
  6. If you need to hide your eyelash glue, try dipping a fanning brush in gel liner and applying it over the glue.
  7. Did you know that if you want a matte lip, you can use a normal lipstick? Simply place a tissue or tissue paper over your lips and apply pressed powder over the tissue. Voila, matte lipstick and it lasts all day!
  8. To appear more awake, use a white eye shadow in the inner corners of your eyes.
  9. To highlight the eye area, add highlighter below the brow bone and in the middle of the lid.
  10. If you want to make your eyes appear bigger, run a nude eye pencil on your lower lash line.
  11. Lipstick can double as a blush if you ever run out. Apply lipstick to your cheekbone and blend into the skin.
  12. To make your eye shadow pop simply cover your lid with white eye pencil before applying the eye shadow.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my series and thank you for everyone who has shown this series so much love. It really motivates me to put out more content on my blog when you get amazing feedback.

Beauty For Beginners: Highlighting & Contouring

Hi everyone, today I am back with my third installment of Beauty For Beginners. This series was originally just created to help beginners starting out in the confusing world of make-up and I’m really proud to say that this series has done well for itself so far!

Firstly I’ll be defining highlighting and contouring:

Contouring: technique using shading to define and enhance certain facial features. You can do things from enhancing your cheekbones to slimming your nose and even slim down your face as a whole! Comes in either a liquid formula or a powder. I’d recommend powder for beginners because liquid can get very tricky sometimes. As I’ve said before, all up to preference. Some people like to use liquid because it gives them a seamless finish and doesn’t look like make-up.

Highlighting: Simply put, highlighting adds a shimmer effect to areas on the face so certain features appear more sculpted, which in turn makes the contour stand out. Areas known best for highlighting are under the brow, above the cheekbones, the cupids bow and the line of the nose.

IMG_1506.JPG

From right to left: my contour powder is actually a pressed powder from Edgars and a steal at R32,95! It’s in the shade Mahogany. Next we have the Beauty Treats LA Perfect face trio which comes with a highlighter, contour and blush which I purchased from Dis-Chem. I accidentally threw in my pressed powder on the left just to make the photo look full, whoops. I will have a full review on the Beauty Treats LA palette soon.

SKIN TONE: If you’re fair only use one shade darker than your skin tone to avoid the harsh colour showing. If you are like me and relatively tan then you go 2 shades darker and so on. Highlighters should be almost the same colour as your skin with just a hint of shimmer. Unless you want to look like Edward Cullen, avoid highlighters with glitter.

BRUSHES: As you all know my first installment was on brushes. I use the fanning brush to highlight and an angled contour brush to contour.

One thing to take into consideration is the shape of your face and I’ve left a chart description down below for the types of face shapes. You can determine which one is yours. Unfortunately, I’m only able to give the basics of contour and highlighting but there are tons of blogs with more in-depth articles if mine does not work for you.

F8NIV4HHNM4FD47.MEDIUM

The steps below may sound a tad bit confusing but if you would like an in-depth tutorial I won’t mind putting one up on my YouTube channel. You can find my channel, just click here xo

Areas to contour would be the corners of the forehead and then the hollows of your cheek. If you can’t seem to pinpoint the hollows of your cheek, simply suck in your face as if you were making a “fishy face” and it should be more visible. Next, move on to the jaw bone to shape the face as a whole. Contouring your nose is optional, some people prefer to have a slimmer nose and that’s okay. If you feel like yours is fine you don’t have to worry about this step.

When highlighting the main areas to focus on are above and below the brow bone. If you contoured your nose you can highlight down the middle and on your cupids bow. Then above the cheekbones and you’re good to go!

I only have 1 more post for my series of Beauty For Beginners unless anyone has any requests which you can leave in the comments and I’ll be sure to help out. I’m really excited to announce that I have a VLOG coming on Thursday so you definitely want to head over to my channel and subscribe so that you’ll be notified when it goes up!

Beauty For Beginners Series: Foundations & BB Creams

Hi everyone, so here I am with part 2 of my Beginners Series and today I’ll be discussing Foundations and BB Creams. I feel like there isn’t nearly enough posts and once again I’m not trying to say that I’m a pro, but I hope you’ll find my information useful.

IMG_1493.JPG

Pictured above are my holy grail foundation products and my all time fave, the BB cream.

From left to right: Garnier BB Cream in the shade Medium (light coverage), Yardley London Foundation in the shade Natural (Full coverage but lightweight) and Black Opal cosmetics foundation in the shade Honey (full coverage, heavy).

There are various aspects to foundation such as the right shade, the amount of coverage, the feel on your skin, how long it lasts and most importantly how well it works for you. It can be really daunting using foundations and if not applied properly, it may look cakey (a term used when too much product is visible on the skin) and not blended properly, so your neck doesn’t match your face, which can be really embarrassing. Last night I posted my introduction to brushes and in this case I would recommend a foundation brush and a Beauty Blender or sponge.

Foundation:

There are 2 types of foundations: liquid and powder. Liquid foundation has grown considerably over time and has developed into products such as BB cream, tinted moisturizers, CC creams and so much more. Simply put, the difference between liquid and powder foundations is that the one is in the form of a compressed powder and the other comes in a liquid or cream. The cream versions are products like mousse or paste. You can use either or both, I personally like liquid foundations and prefer to set with a pressed powder.

Finding The Right Shade:

Oh how I wish I had known this before I went out buying make-up for the first time. You can’t judge the colour of foundation by looking at the bottle, you need to test it out. I prefer asking a cosmetics consultant to help me when choosing a foundation due to the fact that it is free of charge and you may ask them for advice such as the coverage you need, which products would suit your skin best etc.

Your Skin Type:

This is extremely important when dealing with foundations and the reason I prefer to speak to a consultant. If you have oily skin, you don’t want to use a shiny, illuminating foundation because that will make your skin more shiny. If you have really dry skin, you don’t want to use a matte foundation because that will make your skin appear more dry and in turn dry out your skin. If you struggle with acne, you should look into a foundation that contains blemish-fighting ingredients like salicylic acid.

Coverage:

Basically, coverage is how light or heavy your foundation is. The lighter your foundation, the less coverage it is likely to have for example a BB Cream. The heavier a foundation is, the more coverage it provides so for acne and skin problems you’d look for a foundation with excellent coverage whereas for everyday use and just brightening up the skin you’d use a lighter coverage. I prefer a medium coverage because I hate the feeling of product on my face especially for the whole day.  There are light, medium, and full coverage foundations. Tinted moisturizers, BB and CC Creams (light) foundations will provide a very light, natural look. Medium coverage will be slightly heavier to cover up blemishes and dark marks. Full coverage is usually thicker and hides basically everything. Foundations can also have different finishes like matte, illuminating, satin, and more. Matte finishes will finish without any shine. Illuminating provides a sort of shimmer effect that looks dewy. Satin provides a sheer finish for a healthy glow.

TIPS:

Prime your face with a primer, gel or moisturizer. This acts as a barrier between the skin and the foundation and gives the foundation something to hold on to.

Use a good brush, or your fingers to apply the foundation.

Blend well, I love using my Beauty Blender. More information can be found in my previous post.

Lastly: Set your foundation with either a setting spray or pressed powder.

Hope you enjoyed!
