My Fave Yardley Lipsticks for Winter.

It is definitely that time of year again where the cold sets in and to make my face look less pale I have to wear the darkest colour (or in this case, somewhat dark) to make myself look a little bit presentable. I was recently gifted 2 Yardley Ultra Kissable Super Moist lipsticks and I was more than just impressed. Not only does the lipstick moisturize my lips, but also adds a great pop of colour to any plain or glam look. I’ve inserted various pictures of the lipstick itself, swatches and how it looks on my lips (unfortunately I’ve only worn Coco in the picture below). The names of the Yardley lipsticks are Burnt Plum and Coco, although Coco is more of a dark red than a brown.

Swatched side by side, or in this case above and below each other, burnt plum at the top and coco at the bottom

Here are some images from a date night I went on recently with my boyfriend of 3 years, Matthew. I am pictured wearing the shade Coco.

Before the date night:

I did not have a liner in this shade so please excuse my messy lines, but I can assure you it looks really good. And I may or may not have eaten when this was taken so this is what it looks like AFTER I ate which is great because it hardly budged or disappeared and I didn’t feel the need to apply more since I was home already.

I hope you enjoyed my little selection of winter lipsticks to hopefully add to your own collection. What’s your fave shade for winter?

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 30 – Rustic Garlic & Herb Mashed Potato Recipe

I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE 30 DAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE!

Ok, not quite. The thing is, I thought the challenge was going to be a breeze. It was fun, but it’s called a challenge for a reason. I constantly found myself not posting due to my hectic work schedule and being a full-time student. Even though it isn’t an excuse, I enjoyed every moment of the challenge and found myself pushing myself and I can honestly say that if you’re considering doing the challenge, please do. Not only does it grow your audience, but I have been approached by so many companies on Instagram (My username is Just_Deeanne) which is always great if you’re looking to work with brands for your blog.

That was just a side note, please excuse me.

Mashed potato is a dish that I feel a lot of people can get wrong and then people often find themselves buying the store bought version. I have a problem with both: for one, I hate the powdered version, it lacks flavour and fluffiness and the microwave version just tastes like, boxed meals. Here’s my simple mashed potato recipe that will have you and your guests gobbling in no time!

INGREDIENTS:

SERVES 4 PEOPLE

6 Medium Potatoes//8 Small Potatoes (size is very important)

1 Tablespoon of Butter

2 Cloves of garlic (depending on your preference, if you don’t like garlic, my grandma uses BBQ spice)

1/2 Cup of milk, depending on how creamy you want your mash to be, I like to use just over half a cup

THE STAR OF THE DISH: Robertson’s Rustic Garlic & Herb Spice (No this post is not sponsored, I am just in love with this particular blend of spices). Love the brand and the range they have so if you can get your hands on them, please do!

Salt and Pepper to taste.

DIRECTIONS:

Peel and cut the potatoes into quarters/cubes making sure every piece is evenly sized so that you don’t have odd pieces that didn’t cook all the way through. On the stove, add the potatoes into boiling water on a medium heat for 20 minutes until the potatoes are soft. Once cooked, drain the water and mash the potatoes. Add butter, grated garlic cloves, salt and pepper, garlic spice and milk. Mix together and serve warm. If you feel like you’ve added too much milk, simply put the mash back on the heat and allow the milk to evaporate while stirring constantly, making sure you do not burn your mash.

And you can serve this with a variety of dishes like chicken, meat or fish.

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 13 – Sorbet Spa Escape Lazy Days Sea Botanicals

Hey Everyone (:

Firstly I’d like to apologize for not putting up day 13 and 14 of the 30 day challenge because I went to the doctor last night because I haven’t been feeling too well lately and I was diagnosed with an ear infection so I am currently really sick. I honestly thought my head was going to explode yesterday because I’ve never had a migraine that intense. It was honestly the scariest thing and I was in tears because it hurt so bad.

On with the review and just a side note that I am recovering, my head is still a bit sore and I tend to want to pull my ears off every 5 minutes but I am on medication and slowly but surely dealing with it.

So this is what the Sorbet Spa Escape Gift Box looks like:

DSCN0598.JPG

I do apologize for the lighting in my photos but the weather has been so bad lately and I use natural lighting for my photos so that didn’t really help much.

This was a gift from my boyfriend’s brother for Christmas and I never really purchased anything from Sorbet before except their range of nail polishes so I was pretty excited to try it out. Basically the set includes: A R50 gift card only applicable to acrylics and a facial, a body spritzer, hand and nail cream and a nail buffer.

Sorbet Revitalize Body Spritzer:

body spritzer.jpg

I love body spritzers for when I feel like I need to freshen up on hot days or when I go to the beach so this one is definitely coming with me to campus this year. The smell is more of a sweet almost candy-like fragrance that reminds me of those bath salts I used when I was a kid or some sort of candy. I wouldn’t wear this every single day though because the smell is a little bit too strong for my liking but will definitely use it for those hot and bothersome days!

Nourishing Hand & Nail Cream:

hand lotion

This one has a similar scent to the spritzer but it a bit softer. I really wouldn’t mind keeping this in my essentials bag or my handbag for that matter because nobody likes that feeling of dry hands. I’d definitely give this product a 10/10 when it comes to softening my hands. Works like a charm and has a great fragrance.

Nail Buffer:

DSCN0604.JPG

Not going to lie, the nail buffer wasn’t really anything special to me but because I love treating my hands to a mani now and then, this will definitely come in handy.

All in all? Great job, Sorbet!

I’m looking forward to getting those acrylics now (:

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 8 – A Letter To My Younger Self

Hello everyone, I know I’ve been consistent with all my blog posts but I felt that I haven’t really posted anything personal besides my current relationship (If you missed that post, you can find it here). Tonight (It’s about 21:15 here in South Africa) I just really wanted to take a day to think about what I would’ve told myself and what I wish I knew then so here we go!

Dear Deeanne

I hope this letter finds you well. I’m going to tell you a few things that I think you should know and hopefully you find helpful on your journey through the whirlwind we call life. I feel that primary school treated you well, but I just want to tell you that a cellphone is a very dangerous thing and you shouldn’t use it in school. You will get into A LOT of trouble. Yes, I know that guy in grade 8 is cute and says all the right things to you but please stay away from him, he’s too cool to be in a relationship and he will break your heart. For every boy you meet, be cautious. You fall too hard, too fast. Enjoy high school, I promise you won’t miss it when you’re done. I hope you’re happy with the friends you have because you’re not really going to hear from them again after high school except with the occasional hello here and there. Picking the subjects you’re going to do will be tough, I know. Personally I think you should’ve done business and history. But it’s okay, I need you to know that you need to push through, you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Do NOT ask your mom to cut that fringe, you will look horrible. Also, stay away from neon and glitter tights because its just a phase and those photos will haunt you forever. Do some volunteer work, you’ll enjoy it. When you’re in a serious relationship remember to put yourself first and never anyone else. Keep praying, I know you feel like it doesn’t help sometimes but trust me, God is listening and it will get better. You’re going to go through a tough break up, I want you to know it’s going to be okay. It’s going to take time to heal but you’ll be okay. Stop comparing yourself to other girls, you’re good enough as you are if not better. Listen to your mom, always. Your matric ball dress was disappointing because you didn’t listen. Applying to university is going to be the hardest battle you’ve ever fought. Keep fighting, keep calling, keep praying. Spoiler alert, you do make it into UWC. Don’t be upset when you don’t get in for what you want to study, doors close for a good reason: To point you in the direction of the right ones. Pursue your passions, practice driving and don’t let your license expire. I’m stuck with that problem at the moment and now I have to go write it AGAIN. My best advice to you is to be happy, a lot of people would kill to have the things you have or be in your position. Be grateful for all that you have and be excited for the great things coming your way. I’d give you a book on how your life should play out but that would ruin the fun of the surprises along the way.

Back To Campus Stationery Supplies Haul 2016

Hello my lovely readers

I am currently typing up this blog post with the biggest headache because I am in the process of reorganizing my room. I don’t know why cleaning always gives me such a headache. Today I’ll just be showing you my stationery supplies for the year and I know it’s January but I go back on the 15th of February and I wanted to start my year off on the right note x

Nothing mentioned below was sponsored and all my stationery was purchased from Pick n Pay unless stated otherwise.

WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW:

image2

My glitter pencil case is from Typo and it was a gift from my boyfriend for Christmas. It’s not really big but holds everything I need including my  mini stapler and staple remover and I was really impressed.

image14.JPG

The second gift from Typo is the A5 buffalo grey glitter notebook which I use as my planner. I use a notebook because it gives me more space to write and plan and I can paste months-at-a-glace planner pages which are basically free printables from my favourite studyblr which you can find here.

image15.JPG

These are my 192 page hardcovers in which I transfer my notes neatly and make them colourful. I really like these book covers which are from Carte Blanche. I do not take these to campus every day and I re-write my notes at home.

image7.JPG

This adorable owl notebook I purchased from CNA and this is where I will scribble down my notes from class and then transfer them to my notebooks at home. I really like the ringbinder type of notebook and this one has those pre-cuts where you can tear out your pages without leaving the ugly marks from the rings.

image3

My Hello Kitty Tippex correction tape is so small and easy to put in my pencil case. I like how small it is and it’s so adorable!

image5

My owl ring binder in which I keep my tests and assignments. In the past I have been asked to resubmit assignments and I always misplaced them so I just keep everything in one place because I do not want that to happen again so lesson learned!

image6.JPG

I personally think every student should have a flip file because this stores all my information so if I should lose my backpack then someone can find my student number and email me if they find it. Also, I keep loose notes in here so that they don’t get crumpled and ruined in my backpack.

image4

My little Tatty Teddy envelope keeps all my loose notes in one place for when I’m in a rush and can’t file everything separately. This is one of my must haves for campus because it’s so convenient.

image13

How cute are these Hello Kitty pens from BIC? I was so scared these were the gel ink but luckily they weren’t. This was a great deal but I would’ve preferred more black pens though! However, I like taking tests with blue pens.

image8

I personally love using koki’s in my notebooks because they make my notes neat and colourful and I mean, who wouldn’t want to study from colourful and brightly coloured notes? I’m not really a fan of highlighters because they always smudge so these are a great alternative.

image9.JPG

Sticky notes for little reminders and important notes. I have them in yellow, pink and green.

image12

The reason I bought this little notebook was for the colourful tabs. I’m an English student and we do a lot of reading so I have to mark up texts and these are perfect for that. Also, the sticky notes I purchased separately are not going to be nearly enough so I’m glad I purchased more.

image10

How cute are these erasers? I just died and went to heaven when I saw these because I love cupcakes and these are so tiny and cute.

image11

As a student you have to hand in TONS of paper and most of the time you’re not allowed to bother the staff for a stapler which is why I keep one in my pencil case. I also keep a staple remover because I often have to remove rubrics from previous assignments or I forget to attach a rubric or declaration.

That was pretty much it for my little haul. What are your favourite stationery items?

Tiger’s Milk Restaurant Review 07.01.16 | Bon Appétit

I didn’t want to be mainstream and post this in a category called “Food” so, ladies and gentlemen I introduce you to the culinary aspect of my blog called Bon Appétit. This is basically where I will do food reviews and also post my own recipes.

Today I wanted to venture into the unknown, and by unknown I mean those cute little restaurants that I had no idea existed right around the corner from my house. I’ve heard really good things about Tiger’s Milk and was extremely curious to try it out so my boyfriend and I set off for a lovely afternoon lunch to Muizenberg. There are 2 Tiger’s Milk restaurants and this one overlooks the beach which is amazing.

When you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by a flight of stairs. The restaurant is situated on the second level which is great because you do not get the view of the parking lot. Very well thought out in my opinion. I just want to note that I could not get good pictures because the restaurant was so full so wherever I have used pictures I do give credit. Also, I’m relatively new to the blogging world so I am so shy to get up and take photos (Insert monkey emoji where he covers his eyes).

As we walked in we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff and someone who helped us to our table. We walked past the bar and sat right at the back by the window with a great view of the sea.

The atmosphere was amazing, it wasn’t too loud but there was still that buzz that made you happy and comfortable.

Let’s start off with the menu, shall we? Okay so if you’re looking for variety I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high. I’m a pasta or salad type of girl but I will never say no to some meaty goodness which is mainly what they have to offer. They have a great selection of burgers and various ribs and they do have salads but nothing really extraordinary. I loved the burger ideas, but settled for the Leg of Lamb pizza instead which had garnish (I really don’t know what those leaves are called and if it were up to me I’d call them leaves because that’s what it looked like), lamb, cherry tomatoes, olives and hummus. My boyfriend went for the Avo, Feta and Bacon pizza which I obviously stole from him later and to drink I had an Appletizer and my boyfriend had a Grapetizer.

Just a little side note I took the following pictures on my VSCO cam and I am OBSESSED.

image6.JPG

image5.JPG

image3.JPG

image2.JPG

The size of the pizza was decent in my opinion. I liked that it wasn’t too big and I could finish it (with Matthew’s help of course). But there was something about the crust that didn’t quite tickle my taste buds. The crust was flaky and didn’t really have dough like usual pizzas do. It wasn’t bad but I like my crust, for me it’s the best part of the pizza. The pizza was okay but I do wish I had ordered something else instead.

We did order refills of our drinks and just enjoyed the vibe.

All Is Well That…. Doesn’t End So Well?

Okay, so I know for a fact that I am going to be bashed for this or people will have a lot of opinions but I decided to spoil Matthew and pay for the meal myself. When the bill came it was a total of R301,00. I thought it was a bit overpriced. No, I am not cheap. I am a STUDENT, that’s the difference. I do not work a part-time job for personal reasons and I am allowed an allowance which isn’t much but I am grateful because it teaches me how to work with my money. This just left a sour taste in my mouth. I knew it was a great restaurant but I was not expecting to pay that much for everything. Maybe I’m just overreacting, maybe I’m not.

So Tiger’s Milk, I doubt I’ll be seeing you again soon but maybe when you have a special for students or when I’m… Employed.

Hope you enjoyed (:

Sincerely,

Deeanne.

TRESemme Expert Selection Platinum Strength Hair Mask – Should You Buy It?

Hello lovely readers (:

Firstly I’d like to say welcome to my new blog. I did have one before but I felt that it was a bit too over the place for me and I wanted a new site name so I kept it simple.

This weekend I felt that my hair was in dire need of some serious TLC. My hair is frizzy, but I straighten my hair because I feel that it is easier to manage that way. After years of styling my hair with intense heat (I’m talking prom since 9th grade and 2 senior balls) I felt that my hair started to become really dry and it started to fall out. This worried me. I was flipping through a Cosmopolitan magazine (because COSMO is B A E) and I saw that this product reduced up to 2 years worth of damage. My first thought? Too good to be true, nope just some advertising magic trying to get me to buy their product. Eventually I gave in and I bought it, seriously I have no control over what I spend my money on and I need help.

I’ll stop beating around the bush. Get up from wherever you are, go to the store and BUY THIS PRODUCT. In fact, go buy the whole range please it will change your life, and I am not joking. My hair went from dry to voluminous and healthy with only one use of this mask.

HOWEVER: I want people to know that the bottle says you should leave the mask on for 15 minutes. I decided to spoil myself and have a Game of Thrones marathon and left the mask on all day (approximately 5 hours) and I really allowed this product to work its magic.

Thank me later & thank you, TRESemme.

Look out for this product in my October favourites this month, it’s too good not to put in there!

All my social media information can be found on my page (:

Sincerely,

Deeanne
