Everything you need to know about ZAFUL South Africa and my brutally honest opinion

From ordering to shipping, customs and exchanges, I’ve got all the details…

I’ve been receiving a number of questions on social media about my experience with ZAFUL South Africa. To my surprise, I even had a recruitment agent ask me about my experience because she saw that I had done a video on it! I love helping out wherever I can so I’m going to try my best to leave all the questions you’re dying to know right here where you can read if you’re not really into YouTube videos. Feel free to watch the videos instead if you’d like to see what some of the items look like.

What is ZAFUL?

Zaful is an online fashion retailer with a wide variety of clothing items such as tops, bottoms, denims and swimwear at reasonable prices (I say reasonable because in my honest opinion, they are not cheap but compared to South African prices they’re a lot better).

Ordering process

The ordering process is relatively simple, but checkout can be a bit of a pain. Once you’ve added all your items to your cart, you simply add a discount code (if you sign up with your e-mail, you’ll get tons of them and they’ll definitely come in handy) and then proceed to check out. For some reason, ZAFUL doesn’t pick up South African currency on their site so it converts it to U.S Dollars, which is the same amount but just a different currency. Once you’ve reached the payment process, you can go ahead and pay with credit card, debit card or PayPal (I’m unsure of the paypal method but checkout is safe even though I paid with debit card).

Shipping to South Africa & Customs

Yikes. This was definitely not the quickest process, but really not too bad. I believe that I received my first order 3 weeks after I purchased it and it was delivered to my house because apparently there is a South African warehouse somewhere in SA. The first time I ordered, I had no problems and the courier dropped it off with no charge whatsoever, but the second time I ordered more items (it was a bigger parcel than my first), my package was flagged by customs. I’m not sure how it worked the first time but the second time really got me fired up because it was a hassle to get in touch with the post office, find out why my parcel was flagged and then on top of paying R1700 for my second ZAFUL order, I had to pay a R1300 customs charge on top of that. Guys, when I tell you that it was the final straw for me, I meant it. Customs did me so wrong, on my intern salary, mind you. Just beware of ordering more than 5 items because I’m really not sure how the size issue works.

Quality & Sizing

I’m going to be really honest and say that ZAFUL’s swimwear is to die for. I’ve only ever had one issue with a swimsuit and that was the stitching that was sticking out (it looked messy, like it was coming apart), but I fixed it and now you can hardly notice it. Their clothes are a different story. I would highly recommend not ordering ANYTHING in white, because from my own experience, it is see-through as hell. Some of the clothing items look so cute in photos and once it arrives, it isn’t the best quality. For some reason, ZAFUL charges so much more for their clothing pieces than their swimsuits, which I don’t understand. Their sizing? Absolutely WHACK. I’ve had to order almost all my items in large even though I’m a medium. Their clothing and two pieces run small but their monokinis run true to size. I hate to say it but I really wasn’t impressed with their small clothing pieces, especially because they look so cute on their site.

Returns

I decided to return 3 items that did not fit and this is where I realized how bad ZAFUL’s customer support service is. It takes them 24 hours to respond to each message, which is really ridiculous and can be really frustrating. When I asked about their returns process, I was told that the returned items need to be sent to HONG KONG. Wow, I was at a loss for words. Then they said they’ll refund me the full amount for the clothing, but only a partial amount for the shipping. It cost me about R350 to return the package via airmail to Hong Kong and this could only be done through the post office (they ask you not to use DHL or other courier services, please do not ask me why). They also ask for a website to trace the parcel, an image of the receipt and details of the items. I only received my money a month later and this was after I had to follow up with them a few times.

The verdict

Would I recommend ZAFUL? Yes, if you’re going to buy their swimwear, please go crazy, just read the reviews before you purchase an item so you know what the sizing is like. The reviews are found below each item to give the customer an idea of what others are thinking. As for their clothing, just be careful with sizing and don’t be too excited about the quality. I feel like the only thing I can really complain about are the clothing items I’ve received, their customer support and crazy returns process. Other than that, I’m really happy with some of the swimsuit items.

Have you ordered from ZAFUL before? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Shameless Self-Promo: I am 109 subscribers away from 1000! At the moment, YouTube is really the one platform I’m pouring my heart and soul into so I would love for you to subscribe to my channel and give the video a like because it helps my channel in the long run x.

Formal clothes were always something that I found terribly difficult to shop for. Having a big bust and a small waist is an extremely difficult body shape to shop for, but over the years I have learned to adapt and shop for things that flatter my body. In this clothing haul, I put together pieces that I felt I could dress both up and down so that I won’t have to buy more clothes in the long run.

What was your favourite piece from the video? Let me know in the comments!

California Dreaming.

There’s nothing I love more than looking good, but feeling comfortable at the same time. Although student budget doesn’t always allow me to go out and purchase the most expensive clothing, I still like to make the most of what I have available. Last week Tuesday, my best friends and I rounded up a photographer (who just happened to be my best friends cousin) and took a few shots in the streets of Ocean View Drive. For those of you who don’t know, Ocean View Drive is situated in Seapoint and overlooks the ocean from the top. Palm trees are aligned along the picturesque hills, which makes it look like the streets of California.

OOTD: Starbucks At Sunset [Street Style]

“I’m nicer when I like my outfit”

I’ve never been the type of person who willingly dresses nice for university. The type of university I go to is extremely laid back, so much so that if you do dress “over the top” it’s really weird so I would never “over-dress” for campus. As much as I would like a minimalistic wardrobe, I tend to gravitate towards printed shirts that look good for days when I don’t really feel like dressing up. I feel that printed shirts are such a great statement piece that can make any outfit cool no matter how basic the other pieces are. I picked up this Starbucks shirt when I went to Thailand and I love Starbucks, so it’s no surprise that I have this shirt. I would say that I do have a coffee addiction and I cannot get through the day without a daily dose! I took a few photos of my outfit I wore two days ago and I am obsessed with how they turned out even though the sun was already setting.

To be honest, this is the first fashion post I’ve done in such a long time because in the past, I always used to have someone take photos for me and now I have to take all my photographs myself. I’m really happy with how my photographs turned out. In case anyone was wondering, I paired this outfit with white low cut converse. I asked my mom to take a full length photo but she’s still working on her skills!

Classy Couture: My Top Picks – Steve Madden

If you’ve been following my Twitter, you would have seen that the other day, I tweeted “I can’t wait for the day when I can walk into Steve Madden and pick out whatever I want without looking at the price tag”. And this was for good reason — Steve Madden was the first high-end heel I owned and something I still keep in its box since I’ve only ever had the courage to wear it once. I’m still waiting for the right occasion to flaunt my most prized possession. I walked past the store the other day and died when I saw some of the shoes. One day, Deeanne. One day.

I’ve decided to dip back into Classy Couture and show you my Steve Madden favourites.

STELAH

copy-ss17-steve-madden-stelah-grey-suede

I love the Stelah shoe because it’s suede and has the cute fur rim at the top of the shoe. I love how sleek the design is and I feel that it would make your foot look so gorgeous and classy. Definitely one I would add to the collection and wear out to an event or lunch with the girls. Dressed down with a pair of skinny jeans and a figure hugging top or dressed up in a short dress or maxi with a slit.

GONZO-V

STEVEMADDEN-DRESS_GONZO_BLACK-VELVET_SIDE

I do not have the words to describe how badly I need these babies. I feel that this is so versatile as it can be used as a statement piece for a casual outfit (come on, these heels are killer!) or you could wear this with a plain formal piece to really add the flare to the look. I love these in black because I feel they would go with almost anything and I’m drawn to darker colours.

SATIRE

img-thing

I call this one my graduation shoe. Whenever my university campus has a graduation ceremony, I almost always am drawn to the shoe chosen for the occasion. I actually saw this last year at the V&A Waterfront in the Edgars clothing store and man did I fall in love. Unfortunately these were not on sale so as a result I had to put these babies back. I would love a pair like these for graduation because I feel like it says “I have made it” in terms of fashion choice. I love how the straps look on the foot and almost slims it in a way. So if ever Steve Madden decided to gift me a shoe, my graduation is next year (wink, wink).

imgx-thing

I’m not to sure if this particular shoe has been removed from the collection, as I could not find this one on the website. While browsing the other day, I happened to come across a similar pair, except the heel was a bit higher and it had statement diamonds along the toe strap. I could not find that one on the website either, but I love how classy this one looks. I could honestly see myself getting married in a shoe like this as it provides comfort in the length of the heel and with a perfect pedicure, these babies would make for some gorgeous photos. Unfortunately I do not see myself heading down the isle any time soon so these are not a priority but definitely on my wish list.

STECY

STEVEMADDEN-DRESS_STECY_NATURAL_SIDE

Obviously I kept the best for last, because it was the first Steve Madden shoe I’ve ever owned! I actually have this in black, but I feel that both nude and black look absolutely stunning. I actually got mine on sale at a steal of R599, when it retails for R999 usually. It’s very comfortable and give me the illusion of longer legs (I’m 5’4).

What are some of your favourite shoes?

September Favourites & Surprise Announcement!

Hello and welcome back to a bran new post, beautiful!

So before I start rambling on about my new found September Favourites, I would just like to announce that I have my own domain! I am now available at http://sincerelydeeanne.co.za and I also have a giveaway happening in a week or two, so if you would like to enter then head over to my Instagram where the giveaway will be happening.

So I know September isn’t exactly over yet, however, due to the fact that I’m going to be extremely busy filming and working on getting my drivers, I can’t promise it will be up when September ends! So here we go:

IMG_2661.JPG

IMG_2662.JPG

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Correct & Perfect CC Cream in Medium:

Recently I’ve been loving the “no make-up” make-up look where I don’t want to go through the effort of putting on a full face but at the same time I still want to look somewhat presentable with a light blush. So this is where my CC cream comes in, it has all the coverage of a foundation without feeling so heavy on my skin. Some people complain that it leaves their skin a bit oily but I’ve never had this problem. Thumbs up from me! This retails for about R99,95

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser:

I love having flawless looking skin, unfortunately I have huge pores and it often looks like I have holes in my face. Ever since I’ve heard about the Maybelline Baby Skin, I had to get my hands on it. It really does leave my skin with a flawless finish and I love a good bargain for only R80

Michelle Ori Paris Eyeliner In Feliner:

If you guys missed my Kendall Jenner Inspired Look, I used the Michelle Ori Paris Eyeliner to wing my eyes. I was featured on rubybox beauty’s newsletter and on Yardley London SA’s Instagram page. Check out the link to watch it.

Design Compact Powder in Soft Beige:

Who doesn’t love a good setting powder? I love the fact that this powder from Edgars is extremely affordable and not that hard to find since their are so many Edgars branches which have a make-up table. This powder prevents make-up from caking on my face and also gives me a less dewy finish if I don’t feel like a glowing face.

Essence All That Greys Lipgloss In 01 Roaring Red:

I feel that this lipgloss is more purple than red. I used this in my Vampy Burgandy Winter Make-Up Tutorial & Bold Lashes

I love this lipgloss because it lasts extremely long and doesn’t dry out my lips like most lipglosses do. I love how sleek it looks and super ready for the Fall. Try it out for yourself! This was about R49,95, however this range has been discontinued.

LA Girl Pro Conceal Concealer:

BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE. I wasn’t a huge fan of concealer before but after finding this one that doesn’t cake on my face, I am OBSESSED. I will never leave home without concealer if I’m wearing make-up because I have a lot of stress pimples so I need to get rid of those without harming my skin. If I’m not mistaken, this retails for about R49,95.

My Top Essence Nail Polish Picks For Spring

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back to a brand new blog post. Yes, I know I’ve really been slacking but as most of you know, I’m writing my drivers test next week. I am beyond scared but when I got home from my lesson I was alerted that I had won a hamper from Beauty Bulletin! I’m going to keep it a secret but if you head over to my Instagram: sincerelydeeanne you will know what it is!

I wanted to share my top picks for Spring from Essence Cosmetics. I love Essence because I feel that it’s an extremely affordable option for students on a budget. I personally paint my nails every Sunday and this will be good for 3 – 4 days if you use it in conjunction with the base and top coat. The nail polishes retail at about R27 at Clicks or Dischem.

I just wanted to point out that I do live in South Africa. I know most people are moving into the Fall season, however I am in the Southern Hemisphere so we are moving into Spring and Summer.

image1(1).JPG

From left to right:

Essence I Heart Trends, The Nudes range in 09 You’re So Beautiful: This nude is my favourite out of my selection because I love natural looking nails. I like to cut my nails short and then paint them with this colour. It’s natural, neat and pretty darn amazing. What impressed me the most was that this one was not prone to chipping and I love a chip free polish.

Essence The Gel Nail Polish in 08 Whatever!: A bright and playful pink, which reminds me of bubblegum. I love wearing this on my toes more than my fingers but I feel that this one needed more than one coat in order to give of that bright pink finish. Love it still and would definitely recommend it.

Essence The Gel Nail Polish in 21 A Whisper of Spring: I think the name says it all. A very light lavender which looks amazing on both toes and fingers. I love how soft the colour is and very girly.

Essence The Gel Nail Polish in Play With My Mint: This bright mint colour looked really appealing on the shelf and I loved how it looked on my fingers. I must say this one did chip which for me was a bit of an oopsie but it happens and I did get a new one.

Essence The Gel Nail Polish in Wild White Ways: Soft white is my favourite go-to when painting my nails if I’m not in the mood for a colour. It reminds me of the Kardashians in a way because that’s Kim’s favourite colour to wear on her nails.

Do you have any polish recommendations? Would you like a Fall Essence Nail Polish Pick? Let me know in the comments.

20 Things I’d Like To Do Now That I’m 20

Hello my amazing readers, I cannot believe it’s that time again where I’m sitting down in front of my laptop and just writing a post for you guys. I am beyond excited to announce that my Kendall Jenner Inspired Red Lip Tutorial has been featured on Yardley London South Africa’s Instagram Page! You can find their profile by looking up yardleylondon_sa and leaving me some love if you would like to x. Also: I am filming a Q&A for my YouTube channel so if you’d like to leave me questions in the comments then please feel free to do so.

For those of you who didn’t know, I turned 20 on the 8th of August 2016 and this basically means that I am no longer a teenager and slowly but surely making my way into the adult world. I’ve come up with a few goals or things that I would personally like to achieve during my 20’s and I just want to inspire others to set goals for themselves and make the most out of life. Let me know if you have any goals you’ve set out for yourself in the comments!

  1. Get My Driver’s License: This is my number one priority at the moment and I am so so nervous to complete my driver’s test this month. I feel that this would be an amazing way to enter into my adult phase as having your driver’s gives you a sense of freedom and responsibility. Please keep your fingers crossed for me this month!
  2. Travel: Being someone who has never been overseas yet, I’m very keen on traveling and getting a job in order to save money and just explore new places and try new things. I promised myself that I’ve always wanted to go into a career that involves a lot of traveling to make up for what I’ve missed out on. Wanderlust is too real out here!
  3. Get My Degree: I am a double major in English and Language and Communication Studies, so I am always forced to work extremely hard because in South Africa, BA and English Degrees are not given enough credit and it is often difficult to find work. A degree would mean a great sense of accomplishment for me so I would love to obtain this and add it to the office wall in my future home.
  4. Intern at Cosmopolitan or  any other fashion/beauty magazine: Although Cosmopolitan is top of my list, I wouldn’t mind interning for a beauty or fashion related magazine. I firmly believe that experience is everything in my industry and you can never have too much experience, however you can be over-qualified. How I see it is that I’m going to obtain my degree, intern and then complete my post grad in journalism. There are bursaries available to help with this and if I do obtain a bursary I walk straight into a job after my studies. Hard work never killed anyone!
  5. Own my own apartment: As much as I love being around my family, when I turned 20 I suddenly felt the need for my own personal space. Having no personal space in my house can be very frustrating sometimes and it’s not the best of situations. I hope to have my own place before the age of 25.
  6. Get Married: I know life is unpredictable and I’m not the type of person to set my heart on someone quickly but my family usually get married around 23-29 and I’ve always been in love with the idea of love.
  7. Have my first child: To be honest, I want this more than anything. I’ve had baby fever for the longest time and I love children so no surprise here.
  8. Learn a new language: I hope that with traveling and going to new places, I am able to absorb the culture and learn new languages along the way. I find learning to be so much fun and very interesting so this is a must for me
  9. New experiences: I would love to try new things and start going to various events. Being someone with social and actually wanting to put myself out there, it’s a very scary thought and exciting at the same time.
  10. Conquer my fear of putting myself out there: When I was bullied throughout high school, I was in such a bad place that when I transitioned to university it was really difficult for me to make friends and to this day I can’t start a conversation unless someone talks to me. I just want to get over this because it ruins so many aspects of my life and it’s time that I do things for myself.
  11. Win a competition: If you follow me on snapchat (just_deeanne) you would know that yesterday I posted a snap saying that I have never won a competition in my life. I feel I’m going to enter all the competitions I can and hopefully win something.
  12. Take my mom & grandma on the vacation of their dreams: A lot of my success I owe to my grandma and my mom. They were always there for me in the sense that they always pushed me to do better and never t give up. I honestly don’t think I would be at university if it were not for my grandma and my mom. Thank you ladies.
  13. Grow spiritually and deeper in my faith: I love God and everything about my religion, I just want to be spiritual on a much deeper level and just reach a point in my faith where I can honestly say I’m happy where I am.
  14. Go to a music festival: I’ve always wanted to go to ULTRA or just a music festival in general and enjoy myself and live it up.
  15. Adrenaline Sport FTW: I will bungee jump, water ski or white water raft before I turn 30 and this is not optional.
  16. Maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle: I’ve recently started eating so much healthier and exercising regularly. It feels so good to know that my body is in good shape and that I’m no longer lethargic and eating unhealthily.
  17. Go camping or on a road trip with a bunch of friends: This has always been one of the goals I’ve always wanted to achieve. Friendship is important to me in so many ways and I can’t wait to do this.
  18. Be financially independent: I never want to ask anyone for money and I want to work as hard as I possibly can so that I can be financially independent and never have to look at the price tag on an item of clothing ever again.
  19. Become the editor in chief of a magazine: The ultimate goal. YAAAS.
  20. Be happy with life and myself in general: I think that everyone should aspire to be happy with life and just happy with themselves in general.

See you next time lovely!
