Blueberry Flapjack Stack Recipe

Whether it’s for a hearty breakfast, or even a wholesome dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth, you can never go wrong with blueberry flapjacks. I think that I loved baking since I was a kid. I love the thought of experimenting with flavours and coming up with various combinations. I recently decided to spoil myself with a flapjack maker from Clicks which happened to be on sale. Usually I purchase the flapjacks from Woolworths and keep them in the freezer until I need to toast them. I never really liked the idea though, due to the fact that they’re never as fresh. So I decided to make them myself!

This recipe makes for about 4 in a flapjack maker, but feel free to double up if you would like more! Also, just a note that I would use a measuring jug when measuring out my ingredients, which is why I prefer to work with ml’s.


  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 65ml sugar
  • 65ml milk
  • 1 large egg
  • pinch of salt
  • 125ml self raising
  • Hflour
  • Blueberries (I love the blueberry pots from Woolworths which you can keep in the fridge)


  • Combine all the dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the egg and mix well
  • lastly, add the milk and mix until the consistency is smooth but not runny.
  • Add the blueberries into the mixture and fill the flapjack wells with mixture.

Don’t have a flapjack maker? Don’t worry, it works just as well in the pan too!

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 30 – Rustic Garlic & Herb Mashed Potato Recipe


Ok, not quite. The thing is, I thought the challenge was going to be a breeze. It was fun, but it’s called a challenge for a reason. I constantly found myself not posting due to my hectic work schedule and being a full-time student. Even though it isn’t an excuse, I enjoyed every moment of the challenge and found myself pushing myself and I can honestly say that if you’re considering doing the challenge, please do. Not only does it grow your audience, but I have been approached by so many companies on Instagram (My username is Just_Deeanne) which is always great if you’re looking to work with brands for your blog.

That was just a side note, please excuse me.

Mashed potato is a dish that I feel a lot of people can get wrong and then people often find themselves buying the store bought version. I have a problem with both: for one, I hate the powdered version, it lacks flavour and fluffiness and the microwave version just tastes like, boxed meals. Here’s my simple mashed potato recipe that will have you and your guests gobbling in no time!



6 Medium Potatoes//8 Small Potatoes (size is very important)

1 Tablespoon of Butter

2 Cloves of garlic (depending on your preference, if you don’t like garlic, my grandma uses BBQ spice)

1/2 Cup of milk, depending on how creamy you want your mash to be, I like to use just over half a cup

Salt and Pepper to taste.


Peel and cut the potatoes into quarters/cubes making sure every piece is evenly sized so that you don’t have odd pieces that didn’t cook all the way through. On the stove, add the potatoes into boiling water on a medium heat for 20 minutes until the potatoes are soft. Once cooked, drain the water and mash the potatoes. Add butter, grated garlic cloves, salt and pepper, garlic spice and milk. Mix together and serve warm. If you feel like you’ve added too much milk, simply put the mash back on the heat and allow the milk to evaporate while stirring constantly, making sure you do not burn your mash.

And you can serve this with a variety of dishes like chicken, meat or fish.

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 29 – Baked Banana Bread Recipe

Hi Everyone!

I’d just like to apologize as this recipe was scheduled to go up yesterday but it didn’t so I really am sorry for making you wait. Also, I’ve received a few questions with regards to my YouTube channel. I haven’t posted a video in about a month because my schedule has been beyond crazy and I haven’t had the time to sit down and film a video due to the fact that I am practicing my driving in the hopes of getting my drivers license, I have to work 1 more weekend before I am officially done with my 3 month promotional campaign and I am in my second term of first semester which is an exam term and requires a lot of focus.

Without any delay, here is my banana bread. I posted a few videos on my Snapchat: just_deeanne and a lot of people snapped me asking for the recipe so here it is:



3 Mashed Bananas

1/2 Cup Melted Butter

1 Teaspoon Vanilla Essence

1 Cup Milk

2 Eggs


2 Cups Sugar

3 Cups Flour

2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

Nuts are optional.


Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celcius (356 F) (Mix all wet ingredients together: mashed banana, eggs, milk, vanilla essence and melted butter. When adding the melted butter make sure the butter is not warm as this will scramble your eggs, causing your bread to flop. Once all the wet ingredients are thoroughly mixed, add dry ingredients: sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda and 1 cup of nuts if you wish. Mix once again, your consistency should not be runny nor too sticky. Somewhere in the middle and you’ve got it spot on. Insert the mixture into a baking tray, I personally love using bread tins and bake for 45 mins to an hour making sure that you insert a skewer and if it comes out clean, your cake is ready and you can switch off the oven and close the oven door so it will dry out for the remainder of the time. Once ready, take it out to cool making sure it’s still a little bit warm, top with butter and serve.

30 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 28 – Hassle Free Spaghetti Recipe

Hi Everyone! In keeping with my Bon Appetit section on my blog, I thought I’d share my favourite spaghetti recipe. Spaghetti is one of the easiest and hassle free meals to make and I love any Italian food. For the next 7 days I will be uploading a recipe a day as I have been very quiet on the blog.


500 g Ground/Minced Meat (I usually use 1 packet but for 4 guests or more I use 2 packets)

1-2 Onions (for more flavour I prefer using red onions)

1/2  green pepper, diced.

1 clove of chopped or grated garlic

1/2 a packet of spaghetti, depending on how many guests you are serving. My personal favourite is the Fattis and Monis spaghetti.

2 – 4 cans of tomato paste, my personal favourites are the Koo tomato paste or the Rhodes tomato paste cups. Depending on how many people I serve, 2 – 3 people I usually use 2 Rhodes tomato paste cups.

1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil

1 pinch of salt.


Fry the onion until golden brown, add green pepper and add garlic.

Once the garlic and green pepper are sauteed, add the mince into the frying pan and fry until the mince is ready. I personally love to add BBQ spice for extra kick and hearty flavour. Once ready, it can be removed from the heat.

In a separate pot, add boiling water to spaghetti with a pinch of salt and teaspoon of oil. Once all ingredients are in the pot, boil the spaghetti for about 1–15 minutes or until it is soft, yet firm to chew.

Drain spaghetti into a colander and add it to the mince and mix together. Add tomato paste into the spaghetti and mince and season with a little bit of sugar just for a hint of sweetness and so that the bitterness of the tomato sauce is not too overpowering.

Feel free to leave out the mince if you’re not into mince but personally it’s what brings the whole meal together in my opinion.

Tiger’s Milk Restaurant Review 07.01.16 | Bon Appétit

I didn’t want to be mainstream and post this in a category called “Food” so, ladies and gentlemen I introduce you to the culinary aspect of my blog called Bon Appétit. This is basically where I will do food reviews and also post my own recipes.

Today I wanted to venture into the unknown, and by unknown I mean those cute little restaurants that I had no idea existed right around the corner from my house. I’ve heard really good things about Tiger’s Milk and was extremely curious to try it out so my boyfriend and I set off for a lovely afternoon lunch to Muizenberg. There are 2 Tiger’s Milk restaurants and this one overlooks the beach which is amazing.

When you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by a flight of stairs. The restaurant is situated on the second level which is great because you do not get the view of the parking lot. Very well thought out in my opinion. I just want to note that I could not get good pictures because the restaurant was so full so wherever I have used pictures I do give credit. Also, I’m relatively new to the blogging world so I am so shy to get up and take photos (Insert monkey emoji where he covers his eyes).

As we walked in we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff and someone who helped us to our table. We walked past the bar and sat right at the back by the window with a great view of the sea.

The atmosphere was amazing, it wasn’t too loud but there was still that buzz that made you happy and comfortable.

Let’s start off with the menu, shall we? Okay so if you’re looking for variety I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high. I’m a pasta or salad type of girl but I will never say no to some meaty goodness which is mainly what they have to offer. They have a great selection of burgers and various ribs and they do have salads but nothing really extraordinary. I loved the burger ideas, but settled for the Leg of Lamb pizza instead which had garnish (I really don’t know what those leaves are called and if it were up to me I’d call them leaves because that’s what it looked like), lamb,cherry tomatoes, olives and hummus. My boyfriend went for the Avo, Feta and Bacon pizza which I obviously stole from him later and to drink I had an Appletizer and my boyfriend had a Grapetizer.

Just a little side note I took the following pictures on my VSCO cam and I am OBSESSED.









The size of the pizza was decent in my opinion. I liked that it wasn’t too big and I could finish it (with Matthew’s help of course). But there was something about the crust that didn’t quite tickle my taste buds. The crust was flaky and didn’t really have dough like usual pizzas do. It wasn’t bad but I like my crust, for me it’s the best part of the pizza. The pizza was okay but I do wish I had ordered something else instead.

We did order refills of our drinks and just enjoyed the vibe.

All Is Well That…. Doesn’t End So Well?

Okay, so I know for a fact that I am going to be bashed for this or people will have a lot of opinions but I decided to spoil Matthew and pay for the meal myself. When the bill came it was a total of R301,00. I thought it was a bit overpriced. No, I am not cheap. I am a STUDENT, that’s the difference. I do not work a part-time job for personal reasons and I am allowed an allowance which isn’t much but I am grateful because it teaches me how to work with my money. This just left a sour taste in my mouth. I knew it was a great restaurant but I was not expecting to pay that much for everything. Maybe I’m just overreacting, maybe I’m not.


So Tiger’s Milk, I doubt I’ll be seeing you again soon but maybe when you have a special for students or when I’m… Employed.
